UCSD Club Gymnastics Kicks Off the Season at UC Santa Barbara
Club Gymnastics kicked off their season at the SCU-UCSB Invitational, competing against host UCSB and UCLA. The women’s team represented all four women’s levels of NAIGC (from lowest to highest levels): the developmental level, level 7, level 8, and level 9. For the developmental level, senior Alice Williams posted scores of 8.0 and 8.6 on vault and bars respectively to take home second place on both events. She earned an all-around score of 33.3, which combined scores on vault, bars, beam, and floor, to finish in 3rd place. Senior Mikayla Kotlensky scored an 8.7 on floor to take home 2nd place on the event.
Freshman Katherine Baker made up our level 7 team and scored a solid 9.5 on floor. Seniors Allyson Osborn and Clare Haworth competed level 8, with Osborn taking home gold on vault, bars, beam, and in the all-around, with a score of 34.5. Haworth tied for 2nd on floor with a score of 9.4. Senior Linh-An Ho competed level 9 and placed 1st on beam with an 8.7.
The men’s team all competed level 9, with grad student Philipp Arndt placing 1st on five out of the six men’s events and in the all-around with a score of 63.9. Junior Jeremy Gutierrez placed 2nd in the all-around, and senior Nicholas Wong completed the podium sweep, placing 3rd in the all-around.
The Tritons had a great first meet and look to continue their success at the Virtual Stars Championships next week.
