UCSD Dancesport Dances by the Shores

The UCSD Dancesport Team’s home competition, the 24th Annual Dance by the Shores, was a remarkable success on many levels. The team has been preparing all year not only to compete in, but also host the west coast’s largest collegiate dancesport competition; with competitors from collegiate teams based in California, Arizona, and Oregon. The team worked together under the leadership of Lissett Franco and Arianna Martinez to run the competition without a hitch as well as bring in donations for a food drive. Despite the grand scale of the event, the UCSD Dancesport Team dominated the competition, with stand-out showings in the Standard category from couples Thunder Bird and Alise Bruevich, Harry Tran and Megan Tavares, George Troulis and Amanda Lam, and Jamshed Ashurov and Emily Zhang. In the Latin category, finalists and winners included Matthew Panelo and Karen Lucknavalai as well as Jamshed Ashurov and Emily Zhang. Needless to say, UCSD defended their home territory.
