    Triton's Last Chance

It was a beautiful day and an even more beautiful night for the last game of the quarter, with the UC San Diego Tritons playing the Long Beach Prospectors. This game was not only the last game but the last chance our Tritons had to get into Regionals. The team came together knowing what was on the line and performed spectacularly. When the first half kicked off, the Tritons came out spears blazing, they immediately connected with one another and kept the ball in their offensive third the whole half. Mid-fielders, Elayna Osterman and Nadia Haghani connected brilliantly with the two forwards, Marissa Lynch and Amalia Serna, making plays and opportunities galore. Working for a goal, the Tritons could not finish and the half ended with intense longing to get back onto the field. As the second half began the Tritons had a difficult time bringing back the intensity when something clicked for them. Starting from the keeper all the way to the forwards the connection of passes increasingly strengthened up the field. Captain, Jill Giannini, received a pass from the middle, took it up the line, passed to Osterman who crossed into the crowd of players waiting for the ball to drop on the top of the six box. Haghani fumbled around as the ball was bouncing off players’ feet and then a shot came from forward, Jade Joiner, and into the net it went. Tritons up 1-0, finished the rest of game playing hard and calculated as the Prospectors began playing more aggressive. In the last few minutes of the game the Prospectors had an advantage over the defense and as she beat the last defender it was up to the keeper, Allison Lee, who sprinted out of the box, sliding feet first into the ball, clearing it from a potential tie breaker. Finishing the game 1-0, the Tritons happily ended their last game together and awaited for Regionals.
