UCSD Team Gets Big First Win

In their first game, UCSD faced Cal Poly in a friendly match held at home. Tensions were high as players were visibly eager to participate in the competition after their lengthy offseason. Alberto Montilla and Gorjeite Sweidan dominated both the offense, as well as defense, in their positions as defensive center mids. The intensity of the UCSD team was displayed by the high-scoring offense, leading to a final score of 6 to 0, UCSD. A majority of the goals were credited to the forwards, Sarah Martin and Anna McQuarrie, who were able to redirect the ball into the goal (known as a tip) as it was led up the field by the midfield. The defense also held their ground as 0 goals were allowed in  due to the unstoppable back line of defense, headed by Luisa Ayala (center back) and Gabriella Williamson (goalie). Cal Poly provided a strong competition but was unable to break the defense of UCSD.
