UC San Diego Dancesport went to UNLV’s Desert Challenge competition April 26-28th. In the International Syllabus Ballroom, Matthew Panelo and Emily Liu won 1st in Newcomer Waltz, 2nd in newcomer Tango, and 2nd in newcomer Quickstep. In International Syllabus Latin, Manuel Caro Torregrosa and Amanda Lam got 3rd in bronze Paso Doble, Daysia Torres and A’Mariah Lovelace placed 3rd in bronze Jive, Matthew Panelo and Emily Liu placed 2nd in newcomer Cha Cha, Rumba, and Jive, Carla Chehadeh placed 3rd in bronze Cha Cha also with Matthew Panelo, and Clara Hess and placed 3rd in newcomer Rumba with Jamshed Ashurov. In the advanced evening session, Joan Valls Cuevas and Amanda Ridgway won 1st in Novice Latin, while Nicole Wells placed 3rd in Pre-Championship Latin and 3rd in Championship Latin with Simon Huang. As our last competition for the year, the team enjoyed bonding together over the weekend and celebrating our improvement and successes throughout the season.
