This past Saturday UCSD Women’s Lacrosse was able to face off against their very own UCSD alumni! Notable members include previous nationals player Audrey Wang, who faced off against our center midfielder at the draw.
Due to lack of alumni able to be present, a lot of our own girls were place on the alumni team. Although it was difficult to play as one team in the manner, it was a great chance to get new players involved in their first lacrosse game ever! New players who got to show their skills included: Blair McGarrigle, Aya Rosenfield, Jasmine Sabei and Julie Martinez. Lacrosse is a tough sport to pick up and we are exceptionally proud of our new players for picking it up so quick.
The alumni game was a fun way for many returning players to get back into the swing of things. From the defensive end, senior, Demi Greiner, should impressive defensive stops as well as leadership of her new defenders. Maritza Martinez, also showed her presence on the field as well as her improvement!
On midfield, Danielle Viviani, got a shot at taking the draw for the first time ever, which was nice for Michaela Juels to take a break (she also did very well). Two returners (who were first time players last year) got a chance to play midfield for the first time ever. The two ladies, Vita Gossman and Jenna Hazen, demonstrated their increased lacrosse knowledge and skill profoundly. We hope to see them on midfield again!
The attack end boasted performances from the always amazing Nicole Goodwin, who had a staggering 5 goals (2 of those assisted by Michaela Juels). Nicole has been an incredible force in shaping the incoming class of rookies. Additionally Kellen Peddicord and Jiyoung Yun, notable returners, both scored their first goals of the season.
Our rookie, Audrey Nunez, scored an impressive two goals on attack. She has already demonstrated an immense force on the field and we are so excited to see her lacrosse career unfold this season. Our very own brand new player, Jasmine Sabei, scored her first goal EVER on her FIRST ever lacrosse game (impressive!).
All in all, the Triton Lady Laxers are looking to have an impressive season and look forward to facing off against Division 3 NCAA Redlands Lacrosse on Wednesday!
