The Tritons headed to Santa Ynez, CA on Friday, February 7, 2025, to compete in the annual Santa Barbara Shootout tournament. They played three games total (vs. CSU Fullerton, Stanford, and UC Santa Cruz) and took home the win for all 3 – ending the weekend with their first shutout of the season! Having three games allowed all of their players a time to shine. In their game against CSU Fullerton, the ball seemed to be more on the offensive end – allowing attackers to shine. Through working together to secure the win, 8 different players scored in one game! In their second game versus Stanford, the defense pulled through to fend off the Stanford attackers, ultimately leading the Tritons to their win. Defenders Hope Amend, Savannah Kezmoh, and Brooklyn Nguyen were amongst the defenders who fought hard until the very end – causing turnovers and picking up ground balls. In their last game against UC Santa Cruz, goalies Kate Shanley and Kiara Young defended their goal with confidence. Making saves left and right, these two kept the Banana Slugs from making a single goal and earned their first shutout of the season! The tritons had an amazing weekend away – they learned a lot, have much to celebrate, and will use this momentum to gear up for their endeavors next weekend in Irvine, CA.
