UCSD was eliminated in its first game of the playoffs, losing 7-2 to UC Berkeley. Despite the lopsided final score, the game began on even terms, with neither team scoring in the first period. During the second period, the Tritons would open the scoring with Soorab Shamloo finding the net first. However, the Tritons faltered for a 5 minute stretch during the middle of the game, during which UC Berkeley scored 5 goals. The third period was much more evenly matched, with the Tritons returning to their steady and strong play from the first period, but still conceded 2 goals while only scoring one. Despite an overall strong performance by the Tritons and an incredible game by first year goaltender Matthew Mahlow, the few minutes in which UCSD faltered would decide the game.
