2/22/25 - Sailing Gets 5th at Mustang Open
Mustang Open brought difficult conditions for the UC San Diego Sailing Team. The wind was light and variable on Saturday, and the current was strong. Our sailors performed well in these difficult conditions, and we were in third place at the end of Saturday. On Sunday, the conditions were just as tricky, and our sailors struggled a bit more and dropped to 5th place. 5th place is still an excellent result and an improvement from last year's result. Our team continues to improve and strengthen. Only 7 points separated 2nd and 5th. Mustang Open was a competitive regatta and a good learning experience for our team.
Our sailors also did well in the JV fleet. Our top two boats were 8th and 9th, and some of the newer sailors were able to gain experience and remain competitive in extremely tricky conditions.
It is always fun to sail in Morro Bay, and this year was no different. Next weekend, our sailors head to Arizona for the Cactus Cup!
