2/16/25 - UCSD Gymnastics at Their First Ever West Coast Regionals
The UCSD Gymnastics Team had a flip-tastic time at NAIGC Western Regionals in Chandler, Arizona! The three-day weekend was full of new experiences, from the 2025 team traveling together through two time zones, mountains, and deserts; Xcel Diamond Kayla Phillips returning to competition after 10 years and Xcel Silver Alexa Reyes competing for the first time; and many gymnasts trying out Trampoline & Tumbling events, including synchronized trampoline partners Lauren Yerger & Nyla Janmohamed, Malia Lewton & Morgan Ayan, Kaitlyn Fong & Victoria Paulo, and Mia Roe & Raina Eghbalyans alongside two event-winning pairs: Roxanne Mayali & Kayla Phillips and Sydney Kundert & Kristina Ma.
In addition to performing new routines and disciplines, the team experienced several victories and personal bests! There were over ten first-place finishes across multiple levels. Level Nine and MAG Beginner Raina Eghbalyans, Xcel Diamonds Mia Roe & Malia Lewton, Xcel Platinum Kaitlyn Fong, Xcel Silvers Morgan Ayan & Alexa Reyes, and Kristina Ma & Sydney Kundert as a T&T Synchro Team! Level Nine Sarah Mackey aced her Tsuk vault, Xcel Silver Morgan Ayan made her side handstand twist off dismount and squat on to high bars, Xcel Diamonds Frances Scott, Victoria Paulo, & Liliana Echevarria stunned with beautiful floor routines (with Frances winning second place on floor and Liliana competing in the All-Around), and Ari Pasha participated in all three sessions during the day (MAG, WAG, and T&T), finishing in a high freehip to handstand in Xcel Diamond bars! The UCSD Gymnastics Team is off to an impressive start and looks forward to hosting their next meet, the Triton Coastal Classic, on March 2nd!
