2/10-2/11/24 - Squid LITE takes on Pomona Sweethearts

UCSD Men’s Club Ultimate brought the B team to California Polytechnic Institute Pomona’s Ultimate Frisbee tournament: Hucks and Kisses tournament.

The lads went into the tournament hopeful and excited to represent their university. On the first day of play, the Air Squids played UCLA B, SDSU B, and CSU Fullerton. Despite the team's passion and skill the Air Squid’s games against UCLA B and SDSU B both resulted in losses. The match against UCLA B was 7-13 and the match against SDSU B was 6-11. Fortunately, inspiring words from the captains and coaches rallied the team to a monstrous 14-3 win. The late stages of this match allowed the Air Squids to test out some of their very high-potential younger players. The coaches were impressed by the frisbee-throwing capabilities of these high-potential players.

The second day of play had the UCSD Air Squids play Cal Poly Pomona and SDSU B. Despite a quick Air Squids Start Cal Poly Pomona used home-field advantage to beat the Air Squids 13-8. The game against SDSU was the closest of the tournament. The squids played very strong defense, and reached the end zone many times. Unfortunately, due to a failure to properly execute end zone properly, the squids experienced a disappointing 5-6 loss at the hard cap.

Despite the losses the Air Squids returned home with a smile on their face knowing that they were able to represent UCSD over the weekend.
