1st Practice Weekend in Big Bear for UCSD’s Snowski Team
For the long MLK weekend, the team took the drive up to Big Bear California to get warmed up for races beginning the week after. While mountain conditions were not ideal - rain on Saturday, snow Sunday, rain again Monday - the team got after it getting some much needed laps in to get the legs tuned for Arizona. We started each day with a light stretch in the cabin or parking lot to get the blood pumping then headed up the mountain to get some warm up laps in. On the alpine side, we worked on general carving techniques, utilizing the tuck position, and quick turns.
On the slopestyle side, everyone was getting after it whether that was throwing down new tricks or just simply learning the basics. We ran beginner drills on the flat boxes and small jumps and had some of our more advanced crew throw down some new tricks including carve 3s, pretzel 2s, 5s, and rails.
Overall, we worked on integrating the new members onto the team and learning their strengths and weaknesses to find areas to improve throughout the season. Super stoked on the team participation so far and looking forward to competing in Arizona next weekend.
