Tritons overcome the CSU Fullerton Challenge
UCSD took on CSU Fullerton at home over the weekend, ready for a tough match; in the past, Fullerton has been a team that has given the Tritons a tough time. However, tonight's game told a very different story, finishing in a 5-0 win for the Tritons. From the first whistle, UCSD went hard at the CSU Fullerton team, giving them no time to pass and no breathing space on the ball. The high pressure paid off, as the Tritons easily kept the ball for themselves and got on the scoreboard early; Freshman striker Eduardo Ramirez used his body well to shield off defenders and laid it off to Captain Luca Scotzniovsky, who drives a shot down low under the keeper's arms, putting SD up 1-0. Within 20 minutes, after a cross from a corner kick is deflected, Lukas Hanc collects the ball and hits a low shot on the ground past the goalkeeper. By half time, the Tritons were up 2-0 but were not done with scoring. As the second half came along, CSU Fullerton was still held up, with no time and lots of pressure while they were on the ball. Winger Lukas Hanc scored another 2 goals in the half, one from a cross by defender Gonzalo Reinoso, and a tap in from the 6-yard box. To top off the dominating performance, Defender Michael Boychuk hits in another shot in the last 10 minutes. Overall a dominating performance, UCSD finishes the game 5-0 and moves to first place in the league. The Tritons hope to continue this fantastic form next weekend at their game against San Marcos.
