State Championships

UCSD’s surf team triumphantly worked their way up to a 5th place finish at the state championships at the iconic Seaside Reef. A solid turn out for the team with a lot of team sport and improving heat strategy. Teammates were cheering each other on and making the quarter finals but in the end Frankie Seely received a second place finish, while JD Lewis on the men’s team received a 5th place finish. Drew Watamall and Ryan both made the quarter finals, but unfortunately fell short due to an interference and lack of waves. Everyone on the team performed better and improved their heat strategy from the previous Santa Cruz contest at Steamers Lane. UCSD is prepping for nationals, the last contest in June, at salt creek in Dana Point. Hopefully the team can increase the positive momentum and practice time efficiency for the last contest.
