Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz contest is the last contest of the year, it was originally scheduled earlier but cancelled due to rain. The contest conditions unfortunately might have been the same type of conditions but thankfully the storm cleared up. The men’s first 3 rounds were scheduled for Saturday; Josh Sirota, Palmer Bonebreak, and Jake Kruger made their round two heats while Mike Joshua went to the semis just falling short of making it to the finals by only one point of a difference. The women, longboarding, and the continuous heats for men were scheduled for Sunday. Ari Garvin made strides in her performance making the round two heats while Frankie Seely made her heats and won the contest. The top performers in the contest for UCSD was Michael Joshua (7th place) in men’s and Frankie Seely 1st place in women’s for two consecutive years. It was a successful contest for the UCSD surf team, but there’s still a lot of improvement for regionals and nationals coming up next at Seaside Reef and Salt Creek.
