Game Against CSUN

This weekend the UCSD Women’s Rugby team traveled to Cal State Northridge to compete against the CSUN Women’s Rugby team. Despite the heavy rainfall and wind, the game went on without any delay. The game was held on CSUN’s sports club turf field, even though that barely helped with keeping the players from slipping and sliding through puddles. CSUN scored the first try of the match as they were able to penetrate UCSD’s weakness at the corners. After CSUN scored another try, UCSD began to pick up their defensive game, drawing back the offensive many times. CSUN got their final try in the first half by relentlessly crashing through until they were able to barely cross the try zone. Going into the second half CSUN was in the lead by three trys, which they added another try to shortly after the start of the second half. In the past it has seemed that UCSD tends to lose momentum in the second half, but that was not the case this weekend. As they played a hard defense and caused many turnovers and wouldn’t let CSUN gain much ground for the entirety of the second half. While UCSD had many great plays and runs, and no doubt played relentlessly with many players having to play for the whole 80 minutes, they couldn’t work the ball across the try zone. Due to either losing possession due to a penalty or a knock on. Knock ons occurred quite often throughout the game from both teams, at one point causing three scrums not 30 seconds apart from each other. Overall UCSD played a relentless game and was proud of the effort they put forward, playing as if they weren’t drenched in water keeping a high intensity throughout the game. Final Score (24-0) UCSD’s next game is February 9th, making Sunday a rugby day, facing off against UCLA. The game will be hosted at UCSD on Warren Field at 11:00, for anyone who wants to come and show support.
