University of Arizona

This weekend the UCSD Women’s Rugby team traveled to Tucson, Arizona to face off against the University of Arizona Women’s Rugby team. The game started off with UCSD winning the coin toss and receiving the ball first, they also scored the first try of the game. UCSD seemed to break through U of A’s defensive line effortlessly in the first half, with many forwards having great breakaways. Towards the end of the first half UCSD began to weaken in their defense allowing U of A to score two trys quickly, but UCSD answered back quickly with another try of their own right before half time was called. Going into the second half UCSD was in the lead, this quickly began to change as U of A scored another two trys early on. UCSD began to put up a harder defense but U of A found their defensive weakness at the edges of the field. While UCSD had a few possession steals they just weren’t able to keep possession of the ball long enough to work it up the field. In the end U of A was able to score six trys in the second half, with UCSD only answering back with one last try right before the end of the game. Final Score (50-27) Next week UCSD is going to be traveling to Northridge, CA to play Cal State Northridge Women’s Rugby at their home field. UCSD hopes to continue to improve their game play and cohesion as a team and get their first win of the season.
