Happy Moo Year

In an exciting invitational at UC Davis, the Lady Tritons travelled far and hide across the state to compete in a pre-season tournament. During the weekend, the players had been split into two teams, but they all had the spirit of one.

The UCSD-A team had a MOO-velous weekend going undefeated against UC Santa Cruz (21-4), UC Santa Barbara (14-12), Cal Poly SLO-B (8-7) and Fresno State (15-13). Gaia Hinds, came out this tournament with a cuMOOlative of 26 goals. Following Hinds, Cathleen “Pup” Nguyen with a MOO-ving 12 goals, one of which won the sudden death match against Cal Poly SLO-B. The A team had a rough start and needed to focus on slowing down the pace of the game rather than rushing their shots into the goal without setting up around the perimeter. Quickly, the Tritons adjusted and udderly defeated the opposing teams.

The UCSD-B team fought competitively against UCSC (11-6), UC Berkeley (6-7), UCD-B (8-7), and Fresno State (7-3), but lost against 3 teams. However, their legen-dairy teamwork blew the Banana Slugs out of the pool. Emily Heinz lead the B team with 6 goals, following Heinz, Nelly “Rocks” El-Sakkary with 5 goals. Although B team’s offense was a bit unsteady, they raised the steaks with their defense, holding off the other teams from scoring any further.

Holy cow, have you herd the news? The Lady Tritons are headed to Arizona State University this cow-ming February to compete in their first league tournament. Stay tuned as the Tritons make their mark on their road to nationals.
