UCSD vs. Arizona State

UCSD Women’s Rugby opened their season on Saturday with a game against ASU, due to the rain during the week the game was moved from the team’s traditional Warren Field to Muir Field. ASU made the first try of the game but UCSD answered back strong, making 3 trys straight (trys made by: Lesley Galeano and Carole Neri). UCSD played a hard 30 minutes of offense, making ASU work hard to defend their line. Soon after, UCSD suffered its first injury of the game, which seemed to bring down moral and UCSD struggled to push forward after that. Beginning the second half of the game UCSD was in the lead. ASU got the first try in the second half as one of their players intercepted UCSD’s ball. During the second half, UCSD struggled to keep a strong possession of the ball, while they had a few steals and hard runs they weren’t able to assert the same dominance that they did in the 1st half. Having to play a lot of defense you could see UCSD begin to get tired and lose their form in their tackles and rucks, allowing ASU to score more trys. The final score for the game was 43-17, making this UCSD’s first loss of the season.

This coming Saturday UCSD Women’s Rugby is traveling to Tucson, Arizona to face off against U of A. They are hopeful and looking forward to making improvements to their game and bringing home a win.
