This past weekend the UCSD Dance Team traveled to Orlando, Florida for the UDA College Dance Team National Championships. Leading up to the weekend, the team put in over 15 hours of practice over winter break and held their 3rd-annual Competition Preview Night showcasing both their Jazz and Pom routines to family and friends.
The team departed from San Diego early Thursday morning and arrived at Disney’s Allstar Music Resort late Thursday evening. They then awoke Friday morning and headed to the newly-finished arena in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. There, they rehearsed and put the finishing touches on both their Pom and Jazz routines.
The following day, the team woke up at 5:30 am to get ready for the first day of competition. First up was the Open Jazz category, in which the team performed to “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman. They then had a long break before they took the floor in Pom, and were able to watch some of the amazing D1A teams compete. Following the completion of the D1A segment of the competition, the team started warming up and took the floor in the Open Pom category. After they were done performing, the team waited anxiously to find out their national rank. They were ecstatic to be ranked as one of the top 10 dance teams in the nation, as well as receive a “Superior” award! Once back at the hotel, the team went over the judge’s notes before heading to bed.
The group danced their hearts out and left everything they had on the floor! The UCSD Dance Team is overjoyed with their accomplishments this weekend and can’t wait to showcase their award winning routine at Spirit Night!
