UCSD Battle It Out At NIRSA Regionals
UCSD fought hard against some incredibly tough competition over the weekend in San Luis Obispo during their NIRSA Regional Competition. UCSD's first game was against a very organized and tough UCSB team; although UCSD went down early 0-2, they held UCSB to a halt for the rest of the game. Unfortunately, the game ended at that scoreline, resulting in a 0-2 loss for UCSD.
Up next was UC Berkeley, a team that topped their league. UCSD came out strong from the whistle, dominating for all 80 minutes with a goal coming in the first half from Lukas Hanc, after capitalizing on a loose ball in the opponent's box. The scoreline remained for the rest of the match, and the Tritons took the 1-0 win.
UCSD's final match was against a decent University of Arizona team. The Tritons, like their last game, dominated for most of the match but could not convert in front of goal. Trouble came for UCSD in the second half as Arizona won a free kick in their attacking half; with a lofted ball and shaky defense, Arizona's forward picked off the ball and put UCSD behind by one goal. The scoreline remained for the rest of the match sadly. With the 1-0 loss, UCSD was unfortunately eliminated from the tournament. They finished with a 1W 2L record at this year's regional tournament.
