SPOOKtacular Invitational
On an ominous Halloween weekend, your Lady Tritons went to UC Irvine for a preseason invitational where they got to play teams outside their league. They faced San Diego State B, University of Southern California, UC Los Angeles, and UCI Alumni. The Tritons fought with a lot of heart and GHOUL in all the games, but alas, the players ended with 1 win against San Diego State and 3 losses against the eerie teams UCS, UCLA and UCI Amlumni. As a whole, the team showed impressive ways of playing altogether. With only 4 weeks of practice to learn how to work with one another, they developed a unique chemistry that obviously showed throughout the whole tournament. Kinsey “Kid’s Meal” Van Deynze and Nelly “Woah Nelly” El-Sakkary lead the team with 4 goals each. Following the two, we have Cathleen “Pup” Nguyen, Emily “Rise and Rally” Paz, Jenny “Fish” Fisher, Natalie “Liele” Le, and Sara “Torpedo” Tran with 3 goals each player. Kaitlyn Hoo, also, made her first ever goal in a collegiate water polo tournament! The team had a wicked defense, grasping the idea of zone defense very quickly. Van Deynze with 7 steals, Amy “Triggered” Ly with 5 steals and Olivia Navarro with 4 steals. Along with the players, our Goalies had some TOMBtasitic blocks. Lian “Brick” Lumada had 5 blocks and Emily Heinz and Jayna Kaveney with BOOtiful saves. The Lady Tritons are excited for the promising season to come. The team is already back in the pool training for the SDSU invitational tournament on November 10th and 11th.
