On October 27th, the UCSD Dancesport team went to our first competition of the 2018-2019 season! Hosted by Caltech Ballroom, Rosebud Ball was designed for new dancers to become familiar with competitions through its beginner-level events and intimate atmosphere. With only 1 week of preparation for this competition, all three couples performed well against four other teams. Special highlights go to Josue Alvarado and Karen Makhoul who won first in Bronze Latin Cha Cha, and David Quintero and Claire Ting who placed third in Newcomer Latin Cha Cha.

Our returning members were given the unique chance to help run the competition along with other participating colleges. Special thanks go to Melina Reynoso and Samaya Elder for scrutineering, A’Mariah Lovelace for being a DJ and judging, and Nicole Wells for judging.

Our participating team members are grateful for the opportunities we were provided through Rosebud Ball, and we look forward to attending next year. Now, we’re turning our focus toward practicing for UCSB’s Beach Ball in November!
