Tritons continue hot start: Extend winning streak to 3 in 20-1 rout of Cougars

The Tritons traveled up to Escondido to take on CSU San Marcos in a 9 inning game over the weekend. The Tritons started off slow, quickly falling down 1-0 in the bottom of the first thanks to an unearned run. However, that was all the Tritons would give up as Triton pitching combined for a 0 earned run performance and recorded 10 strikeouts, thanks to great pitching performances from Juniors, Ray Young, Ray Estrada, Matt Hosino, Christian Powell, and Freshman Austin Uresti. The bats finally came to life in the top of the 4th when Junior Josh Fonseca came up with a clutch 2 out, 2 RBI single to give the Tritons a 2-1 lead. In the next inning the Tritons added 2 more runs thanks to Junior Hunter Woodruff's first career home run, a solo shot hit well beyond the left field fence. In the top of the 7th, Senior Seamus Beyerle mashed a solo home run to deep left to give the Tritons a 5-1 lead, after tacking on one more the Tritons lead 6-1 after 7 innings. In the top of the 8th the Triton bats exploded for 12 runs thanks to 4 hits and 7 walks to take a comfortable 18-1 lead. The Tritons added 2 more in the top of the 9th, leading to a final score of Tritons 20 Cougars 1. The Tritons will travel to Los Angeles in 2 weeks for a series against UCLA on 11/2-11/3.
