Tritons Take the Field for the Season Opener Game

To officially open the season, the UCSD Women’s Club Soccer team took the field in La Jolla against reigning national champions UCSB. Excited for their first official game, UCSD prepared well in advance anticipating warm weather which was only accentuated by the black turf on Muir field. Despite a rocky start, UCSD quickly adjusted formulating both quick passes to feet and opportunities in front of goal. The tritons whipped the ball all around midfield with sophomore Nat Maloney taking part of some beautiful passing sequences. Although playing well, the inability to capitalize on their opportunities resulted in a 0-0 tie at halftime. With the start of the second half, UCSD suffered a lapse leading to the first goal of the game by UCSB that just snuck through the defense. Not soon after, UCSB continued to take advantage and was able to put the ball into the back of the net twice resulting in a very quick 3-0 lead. After realizing and fixing their mistakes, UCSD maintained the score for the remainder of the game resulting in an undeserving loss.
