11/8/24 - UC Irvine Fall Invitational
The UCSD Women’s Club Water Polo team is so thankful for all these preseason tournament opportunities, including the latest Irvine Fall Invitational right before Thanksgiving. The B team had some tough matchups against the best club teams in the country– but remained composed throughout the weekend. Meanwhile, the A team took third place in the tournament with the record 3-1.
The B team started off the weekend playing the University of Michigan and UCSB A. Goalies Dani Gonzalez and Beth Flynn had a total of 8 blocks and 3 steals in the games and both Lauren Steward and Risa Cozza contributed 2 steals each on the defensive end. UCSD B team had the night to reflect on their games then came out early Sunday morning to beat SDSU B team 5-3. The offensive line was supported by Clio Goodwin with 2 goals and Taylor Humphreys with 3 assists. Defensively, the Tritons dominated with 7 steals and 6 blocks.
This weekend the A team played UCI (18-5) and SDSU B (16-4). Both games were filled with sneaky plays and goals across the board with 10/15 players scoring at least one goal. On Sunday, the A team played Riptide Masters team in the morning before having a close-scoring game against UCLA A (10-9) to finish off the weekend. Overall, there were 17 blocks, 49 steals, and 17 ejections drawn. Some highlighted players are Tania Frank with 8 goals, Natalie Kaplanyan with 6 assists, and Story Waxman with 9 blocks.
The UCSD Tritons had a fantastic weekend at the Irvine Fall Invitational. Great water polo was played, and many lessons were taken away for the Tritons to keep improving over the season. They are very excited for more winter quarter tournaments!
