This past weekend the UCSD Women’s Club Water Polo team hosted a One-Day Tournament in sunny San Diego. Many local college and master teams came out for a great weekend of waterpolo. Both UCSD A and B teams played tough matches with UCSD B team going 0:2 and UCSD A 1:1.
UCSD B team started off Sunday morning against CSULB then wrapped up their second game against SDSU B. Aleesa Ebert played a fantastic game against CSULB with two goals and two steals. Accompanying her, Taylor Humphreys not only drew a 5-meter and an ejection in the first game, but also drew two more ejections and scored five times in the second game. During these intense games, the Tritons heavily depended on their defensive line. Goalie Beth Flynn had four steals and six blocks on Sunday. Overall, the B team had seventeen total steals and won all their sprints.
UCSD A team battled two San Diego Masters teams– SDAC and Moonlight. Daphne Neilan, Julia Derunes, and Tania Frank were on an offensive streak; with four goals, three assists, and three kickouts drawn. The second game was very physical with kickouts left and right, but the Tritons stayed strong. Goalies Story Waxman and Brynna Moore protected the cage with a total of two steals and seven blocks while the team collected eleven steals throughout the game. Sunny Perkins and Natalie Kaplanyan each contributed two goals leading to the Tritons win 8-4.
UCSD WCWP wants to thank all the teams for coming out for our quick One-Day Tournament. It’s always a good day to show how Southern California plays water polo!
