11/4/23 - Vegas Ballroom Dance Showcase: Spotlight on Rising Stars
We're still buzzing with the energy from the recent Scarlet Signature DanceSport Competition in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, hosted by the Rebel DanceSport Team. It was a night of glitz, glamor, and show-stopping moves, and we're excited to share our fantastic journey with you.
Our newcomers took the Vegas stage by storm, showing just what they could achieve in only a few weeks. Brian and Yeya, Mars and Stephanie, Rodrigo and Melanie, Miles Parsons and Chloe Kurihara, Cathy and Nol, and Cadie - these dynamic duos gave it their all in Beginner Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, and West Coast Swing. Special shoutout to Melanie, Mars, Miles, Cathy, Nol, Cadie and Stephanie for their very first competition. It’s just the beginning for these talented dancers!
Our Newcomer couples brought home some serious bling! UCSD dominated Newcomer Cha Cha, clinching 4 places in the final along with the top spot. Miles and Yeya showcased their Tango prowess, securing 1st place. Impressively, Miles and Marina dazzled in the Waltz, claiming yet another 1st place, in fact all of our newcomer couples finalled in the Waltz. We also had some impressive showings in the Newcomer Rumba from our newest members, Miles and Nol.
Our Rookies continued their dominance into the bronze level Cha Cha, Rumba, and Tango. Brian and Chloe, Marina and Yeya, Mars and Stephanie, Rodrigo and Ning - you all brought your A-game to the bronze latin and made it through several rounds of very competitive dancing. Special kudos to Brian and Chloe for their 7th place in Bronze Cha Cha/Rumba. Several couples also semi-finalled in the Bronze Tango after only learning the dance a few days earlier! I’m so proud of all our new dancers.
Moving up the ranks, Apru showcased her smooth moves, landing 4th place in Silver Smooth Foxtrot. Daniel and Lili stole the show in Silver Smooth Waltz/Tango, with Apru also making an impact in the final. In the Gold division, Apru impressed with a 2nd place finish in Latin and a 3rd place in Standard!
Our dancers truly demonstrated their versatility in the Advanced Nightclub category. Bryan and Lili sizzled in Advanced Bachata and Salsa, claiming the top spots, Willard and Apru brought the heat, securing 2nd places. Marina showed off her Merengue mastery, grabbing 1st place. West Coast Swing and Nightclub 2-Step saw Willard and Apru twirl into 2nd place and 1st place respectively.
Our dancers proved their mettle in the Open divisions for the second time this year, taking on Latin and Smooth with style. Bryan and Lili dominated Novice Open Latin, while Willard and Blanca triumphed in Novice Open Smooth. Moving up, Willard and Blanca continued their success in Prechamp Open Latin, securing 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.
We had such a fun time before, during, and after the competition. Thanks to the Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Team for allowing us to help you out when your travel plans fell through. We're grateful to the Rebel DanceSport Team for hosting an incredible event, and we can't wait to keep the momentum going in our future competitions.
