Hello Dragon Coalition Fans! We’re back with another tournament recap for UCSD’s Womxn’s Ultimate team! This past Sunday, your favorite DCOs woke up bright and early to make a beautiful sunrise drive to LA for USC One Day. It was a long day, with five, 80 minute games played in just one day, but the DCOs worked hard and gave 100% all the way through. After arriving, with plenty of caffeine and hyped up for an awesome day, we had our first game against our neighbors at SDSU. This was a super fun and spirited game, with awesome throws from Josie “Bumpa” O’Toole. Rookie Austen “Rena” Rodey had some really cool catches and picked up some trash for a great score! The highlight of the game was when rookie, Mars “Viper” Bau, had four Ds in just one point and then scored! We snatched the victory and it was a super strong game to start the day!
As the sun crept up the sky, we continued along in high spirits to our next game against UC Irvine. This game, we kept the energy high and had some awesome shut-down defense by Ananya “Puls” Shaligram, Mars “Viper” Bau, and Jessie “Saber” Finkelor, which ended up getting us a turnover! Second year Teaghan “Trex” Lynch also had an awesome bookend score! With these awesome plays, we won the game 8 to 6! Next up, we played the hosts of this tournament, USC. During this game, the wind really picked up and added an extra challenge but the DCOs persevered and still grabbed the victory. Despite the wind, fourth year handler, Xuan “Gadro” Feldman, had some really awesome hucks and pulls throughout the game.
For our fourth game of the day, we got to play our very own UCSD BCOs! It was so much fun to be able to play against some familiar faces, and it was a super lively and exciting game. The game was filled with some awesome plays by both teams as well as some hilarious ones. One of the highlights of the game was when third-year Abbi “Pierogi” Shilts was talked into throwing a hammer by one of our BCO coaches. She also had several epic scores during the game. We ended up winning the game 12 to 2. Finally, for our last game of the day, we went up against Occidental College. This game, despite being after a long day of games, was super high energy and spirited. After some great, shut-down defense and incredible offense, we won the game 13 to 3.
After a long, beautiful, sunny day, UCSD Womxn’s Ultimate came out victorious, winning all five of our games! It was an amazing tournament filled with lots of competitive energy, amazing plays, and a bunch of improvement by everyone. Can’t wait to see what our DCO’s bring to Sean Ryan in 2 weeks! DCO, you know!
