As we look forward to having an amazing time at this regatta every year, this year’s Fall PCCSCs were no different! Camping up in Lake Cachuma, we brought 40 eager sailors to Santa Barbara this past weekend to compete in UCSB’s Fall Pacific Coast Championships. Trailering with 5 boats, everyone was to get up safe and sound to the campsite safe despite the rain.
On Saturday, there was a forecast for rain, but thank goodness it held off until the last race of the day. The breeze was shifty, ranging from 4-9 knots, but still allowed us to get plenty of races off the line. There were some choppy waves throughout the day, but we were prepared with our ocean practices the week before. On varsity, there were 8 races completed in A division, with 6 races for B and C division. On the JV course, there were 6 A races and 4 in B division.
After the rain Saturday night, a breeze of 20-30 knots blew through early in the morning. With JV postponed while varsity sailors went out in the more intense conditions. This was held for 4 B-div races, 2 C-div races, and 2-A div races. Eventually the breeze lightened up and eventually died before completing race 10C. JV came out and completed 2 B races, and A division races were started but abandoned when the breeze died out. With the strong winds, it was also an absolutely gorgeous day where our sailors got to enjoy the sun and great vibes ashore.
UCSD Sailing got a ton of great practice out on the ocean this weekend and had a great time competing! Thank you again to the UCSB Sailing Team, coach, and alumni for hosting an awesome weekend!
