11/12/23 - National Championship: Back to Back
A great tournament for our team with each win being achieved pretty handedly. We started slow in our first game, adjusting to the elevation and lack of oxygen in an indoor pool, but still secured a win. It was debatably the most physically challenging game of the year, but superior skill and teamwork allowed us to win this game.
The next game also started off a little slow, but we picked up steam as the game went on, and secured another win. We played Dartmouth in last year’s nationals as well, and they were not going to accept loss easily. They played us to a close game early on, but burnt out over time as we picked up steam and pulled ahead.
In the semi finals we had another rematch from last year, this time against UC Berkeley. This game was one we knew would not be a cakewalk, so we started out strong, taking away any hope they had of victory. About half our goals were scored in the first quarter, after which we just needed to continue to play solid defense to hold the victory, and did.
In the finals, we started off strong once again. Florida was clearly and unsurprisingly the most skilled team we had played all year, and we came prepared. Florida had 2 primary goal scorers, and our goal was to shut them down. We did just that, forcing one to foul out and the other to score only once. We secured the victory and came home National Champions once again.
