11/05/2023 New Talents and Impressive Victories
UCSD’s Table Tennis Team returned to the collegiate competition scene, introducing new players like Sid Vadlamani, alongside many other Freshmen, Sophomores, and Graduate Students new to the NCTTA competition. The team, composed of Co-ed Varsity, Women’s Varsity, Junior Varsity 1, and Junior Varsity 2, was coached by former club president Brandon Koh.
-The Co-ed Varsity Team had several exciting matchups, including 3-1 victories over UC Irvine and Arizona State University. Co-ed Varsity’s newest member, Sid Vadlamani, had a remarkable comeback against ASU, after a 2 game disadvantage. James Goodwin also had a remarkably close match against UCI, winning 3-2, with the final game scoring 15-13.
-UCSD’s Junior Varsity 1 Team, like previous years, had an extremely strong performance. They faced UC Riverside, UC Irvine, and Arizona State University, winning 4-0, 3-1, and 3-1 respectively.
-UCSD’s Women’s Varsity Team faced UC Irvine, coming out with a 3-2 win after a dominant 3-0 doubles match from Grace Wang and Xiaoyu Liu. They also defeated Cal Poly, with a 3-1 win.
-The Junior Varsity 2 Team had a remarkably strong performance, beating every single team they encountered. CSU Northridge, Cal Poly SLO, and UCLA were all defeated 4-0, and 11 out of the 12 matches were won 3-0.
The team has found this experience both enjoyable and valuable. In the upcoming weeks, they are committed to putting in dedicated efforts to enhance their performance and are determined to achieve even better results at the next tournament in Winter Quarter.
