11/01/24 - Hope International University Invitational
This tournament was a first for many of our players. Sending both our A and B, we were allowed to play against CCCAA and NAIA teams and compete at a level other than that of the NCVF. We as UCSD men’s club volleyball were also the only club team represented there, and were positively challenged by the different style of play. Strangely, due to the amount of teams, our pool play and bracket games were limited to only one set. Our A team played against OCC Blue, HIU, and Goldenwest White in pool play. They finished with a record of 0-3 and were placed in the silver bracket. Securing a dominant win against SC Blue, they would ultimately end the day with a loss to OCC Orange. The exposure to new and highly skilled teams gave our A team new inspiration to dominate the SCCVL this upcoming season!
Our B team played against LBCC Red, FSC Blue, and Moorpark White in pool play. They finished with a record of 1-2, notably beating Moorpark in extra points after a seven-point comeback! They would also be placed in the silver bracket and would be sent home by Golden West white. Though not the most satisfying of tournaments in terms of win percentage for the club, we’ll be hitting the Fall Classic next weekend with a new sense of vigor and chips on our shoulders! This week of practice will surely be the grindstone that shapes us into new and shiny (and SLAMMIN’) gems!
