10/9/22- UCSD Cricket in the SoCal Shield Tournament
UCSD won the toss and elected to bat first on El Monte Field 1. UCSD batsmen Shravan and Karan got off to a flying start, scoring 61 runs within the powerplay for the loss of only one wicket. Aryaman and Nikhil led the batting performance, scoring 57(38) and 40(39), respectively. After their 20 overs, UCSD reached an excellent total of 184 while losing 5 wickets. UCSD bowlers followed suit from the batters, minimizing the runs Caltech scored and adding pressure. Despite an all-around good bowling performance by UCSD, Karan shined with figures of 3 wickets in his 4 overs, while giving only 13 runs. Caltech only managed to get to 89 runs at the loss of 8 wickets and UCSD managed to get their third win by 95 runs, the largest margin in the tournament, in the SoCal Shield tournament.
UCSD won the toss and elected to bowl first on El Monte Field 2. USC looked to get a rapid start within the powerplay, reaching a score of 46 at the loss of one wicket. Despite good bowling efforts from UCSD bowlers, USC batsmen Praveen and Vedant scored 82(54) and 34(24), respectively, getting USC to a solid total of 161 within their 20 overs. UCSD openers, Pramesh and Karan, got off to a good start, getting to a steady 39 without any wickets lost within the powerplay. However, USC managed to get a couple of wickets in the next few overs and continued to build the pressure. Without any batters being able to get going, UCSD managed to get to a total of 139 for the loss of 8 wickets, getting their first loss in the SoCal Shield tournament.
