For our first official regatta of the 2023-2024 season, we had some awesome sailors travel up to San Francisco for UC Berkeley’s Stoney Burke event! Getting to sail at the Treasure Island Sailing Center with the Blue Angels flying above you is always a pleasure! We competed in the Co-Ed Varsity and Junior Varisity divisions at the annual NorCal Event. On Saturday there was a small postponement to wait for the wind to fill in from the West, but as it continued to increase throughout the day, we were able to get 7 races in before sunset.
On Sunday, there was a consistent 10-15 knots throughout the whole day, allowing for races to be held to the last possible warning. While we did have some capsizes, it only allowed our sailors more experience on righting the boat quick! Less variable winds allowed for a great day of racing and the bay bridge allowed for a beautiful regatta skyline.
While the competition was tough, our sailors were able to learn a lot this weekend and got to practice sailing in different conditions than we have at home. Thank you to Berkeley for everyone who made it happen!
