    10/26/24 - UofA Tournament- Regionals

This was a great tournament for UCSD with UCSD A getting first and UCSD B getting fourth in regionals. UCSD B’s first game against SDSU B went smoothly as they held the lead the entire game and won. Their second game against SDSU A was very exciting. Throughout the game, it was back and forth on which team was in the lead until, by the end of the 3rd quarter, it was a tie. However, SDSU A played a very physical game which began to wear on the Tritons who ultimately lost. Their third game was against ASU A and even though they lost their chance for second, UCSD B played hard, forcing another close game.

UCSD A’s first game against U of A started very slow with a 1-1 score at halftime. This was mostly due to a lack of warm up since the pool did not open until ten minutes before the game. By the third, the Tritons finally got it together and pulled away for a win. The ASU A game started a lot better with UCSD A pulling away in the first quarter 5-1. There were not many mistakes and the Tritons focused mainly on defense and counter attack, eventually leading to a win. Finally, the regionals championship game against SDSU A was very fun. It was close in the first quarter, with the score at 2-2. During the second quarter, the Tritons played a heavy press defense which caused a lot of turnovers which became counter-attacks that allowed them to score. They focused on the defense the rest of the game and eventually avenged their B team, claiming the number 1 ranking for nationals.
