UCSD hosted a friendly match for the Southern California College Badminton League, attended by UCSD, Cal Poly Pomona (CPP), Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (CPSLO), UCSB, CSU Long Beach, UCR, CSU Northridge (CSUN), Pasadena City College (PCC), SDSU, CSU Fullerton (CSUF), UCLA, UCI, and USC. The event brought together some of the region’s top collegiate badminton talent, and UCSD made a strong showing. UCSD's mixed doubles pair Matthew Chan and Ana Zhou delivered an impressive performance, defeating USC's Yifei Zhang and Reyna Wan in two dominant sets, 21-15 and 21-16. Additionally, senior Reno Guo showed his skill and experience in the men's singles category, securing a victory over CPSLO's Brandon with a well-executed and clinical performance.
The Tritons’ dominance extended across all categories. In the men’s doubles, the pair of Kevin Wu and Nathaniel Lee powered through their matches, while the women’s doubles team of Lily Zhang and Sarah Lee earned a hard-fought win against UCLA's top duo. UCSD’s strong team efforts also included key victories in the men’s and women’s singles events, with each player contributing to the Tritons’ overall success.
All in all, UCSD triumphed with an 8-2 victory over USC, a commanding 7-0 win against CPSLO, and a 9-1 domination of CPP, securing a dominant result in their first SCCBL League match. With their solid team chemistry and impressive individual performances, UCSD sent a clear message to the rest of the league. The next SCCBL match will be hosted on November 23, 2024, where UCSD hopes to continue their streak of dominance and cement their status as a top contender in the league.
