    10/23/22 - HuckFest

Huckfest is an annual returner tournament that allows teams from Southern California to get their feet wet again.  The tournament always takes place at UCI and always gets us back into the competitive mindset.

On the first day we came out strong.  We left San Diego around 6:30 in the morning to start our pre game warm up preparations at 7:30.  After an hour of stretching and small drills, we began our games at 9:00.  Each game was an hour long and tested our endurance and athleticism.  We played 4 games, with some games going to sudden death.   Afterwards, we enjoyed some sandwiches provided by some graduated squids who were native to the area. From there, we departed back to San Diego to rest up and prepare for Sunday’s games.

On Sunday, the same schedule for the morning took place.  We left San Diego at 6:30 in the morning and started warming up at UCI by 7:30.  The games on Sunday were more challenging because of our weariness from the games the day before.  Many of the games on Sunday were marred with cramps and rushed decisions.  Despite the shortcomings, we kept our heads high and brought enthusiasm and vigor to every point.  Once the dust had settled and the tournament came to a close, we went to have lunch as a team to a restaurant where all roads lead to.  That restaurant is Raising Canes on El Toro Road where the 73, 405, and 5 meet.  After enjoying the variety of chicken, we left back for San Diego to prepare for midterm season.

Overall, this tournament was a great way to jump back into the frisbee mindset.  It highlighted our strengths and made obvious our shortcomings.  With that in mind, we are now prepared to practice hard and win some tournaments this year.
