Building on a first game performance which saw the triton’s A side trailing only 17-10 at halftime, the tritons played brilliantly again in a sunny Saturday morning match vs Norco College. The tritons learned to capitalize on Norco’s mistakes and penalties early on, gaining countless meters on missed tackles and penalty drop kicks for line outs. Line outs were once again a constant advantage for the pack, allowing them to keep the ball and give the back line time to mount a short side attack. Capitalizing on these penalties netted three tries from 5-meter tap and go’s, with outside center Sam Crolla scoring twice and tight-head prop Daniel Carrillo diving in for one of his own. Norco mounted it’s own impressive attacks at times, with lengthy back line combinations resulting in three tries of their own. The scoreboard showed 21-17 to Norco as our boys jogged off the pitch for halftime.
This being the first game ever for many bench players, the tritons sought to get them much needed game time before the more important league games and city championship coming in November and beyond. With more of the B side on the pitch, Norco’s lead began to widen, not without Daniel Carrillo scoring once more to leave the final score 41-24. The triton’s next preseason test comes November 4th as we head to USD for two scrimmages - one vs. USD and another vs. UNLV.
