10/20/24 - Tritons Continue Late Comebacks Despite Unfavorable Conditions
The Triton’s headed up to USC with a fire to win and build on their success in the Aztec Cup while heading towards regionals. UCSD thrives on having space and working around the field, but the narrow edges of the USC field combined with their physically aggressive playstyle would cause some issues for the Tritons offense. However, the Tritons controlled the ball in the USC backline early and, with a critical bounce off of one of the defenders, Jorge Rodriguez would fire a shot into the back net to give the Tritons an early 1-0 lead which would last through halftime. USC would start the second half with an early goal from a key throw-in and put relentless pressure on the Tritons which led to another throw-in/goal later in the half to put the Trojans up 2-1. In the final moments of the game, the Tritons found the opportunity to score from a throw-in to Lucas Venetoulias who scored to finish off the game in a 2-2 tie. Although the Tritons were not able to come out with a win, their ability to bounce back and compete shows how ready they are with Regionals coming up.
