10/12/24 - UCSD Takes on ASU at their Men's Water Polo Tournament
It was another dominant tournament for UCSD Water. The B-team had a great tournament going 3-1 in the tournament despite playing 2 A-teams. The first games for both days were won pretty-handedly, letting everyone play pretty evenly. The game against UofA was action-packed and stayed neck and neck to the very end. Despite being close, everyone got equal playtime, which led to the game being so close. Against SDSU A, the B team did not shy away and kept the score tied at half. However, the starters eventually got tired and had to get subbed out, leading to SDSU A gaining momentum and pulling away with the win.
For the A team, all of the games were won with very high score disparities. There is not much to say. As a team, we played better together and were a lot more conditioned than every team that we played. In UCSD A vs ASU B, one player on our team scored 15 goals to break the club record for most goals in one game as well as most career goals. The UCI and SDSU B games were very simple, easy water polo. We played calm and collected and probably could've done better and put our shots away but the other team could not capitalize on our missed opportunities. The games against SDSU A were the most challenging. They wanted to win and by the end of the first, it was 4-2 UCSD A. Eventually, we started playing more patiently and gradually pulled ahead of SDSU A. They played very physically but we did not retaliate, showing our great composure. Overall, a great tournament for both teams.
