1/26-1/28/24 - Santa Barbara Invite: overall record of 2-5

SBI was the first tournament of the regular season. We did well on day 1, taking BYU and UCLA to universe point in pool play, who were both very highly ranked teams last year. However, these uni losses came after having large leads to both teams, which left a bitter taste in the squid’s mouths. On day 1 we also lost to UW 7-15, and beat Northwestern 15-9. The energy on the sidelines was inconsistent during these games and by the end of the day were disappointed knowing that we could have ended pool play as the number 1 team in our pool. On day 2 we came out slow, loosing to UVic 12-9 in prequarters and then to Okc 11-12. However, the squids rallied to beat CSU 14-12 to come in 11th place overall. Throughout the tournament, Sabi put on a great showing as a o-line cutter, as well as hitting many shots downfield. Burns also played very well on D-line, locking people up all weekend. The squids come away from this tournament knowing we could have played better, but also excited at the potential of this team. We look on to President’s day where we hope to make our mark!
