02/17/2024 UCSD Badminton Travels to Seattle for the Husky Tournament

Over President's Day weekend, the UCSD badminton team flew to Seattle to play the Husky Tournament at University of Washington. In the men's singles first round, freshman Matthew Chan faced off against junior Nicholas Jumaoas in the first round of the men’s singles tournament. Matthew emerged victorious with scores of 21-12 and 21-9 and proceeded to win the bracket. Following his defeat to Matthew, Nicholas Jumaoas bounced back and pushed on to claim victory in the men's singles consolation bracket. In women's singles, sophomore Nicole Li and junior Julie Li both made it to the semifinals, unfortunately both losing but still proving a strong showing for the program. In women's doubles, sophomore pair Allison Huang and Ragalina Palaka made it to the semifinals, unfortunately losing there to strong opponents.

Overall, the UCSD badminton team enjoyed their visit in Seattle and placed well in the tournament even though they didn’t win the entire thing. They look forward to improving and going back again next year with the hopes of winning the tournament.
