01/20/2024 Tritons Rout UCI in Winter Quarter Opener
After only playing one series in the fall, the Tritons were eager to get back onto the field and it showed in their offense early. A patient approach at the plate paid dividends for the Tritons as they walked 6 times over the first two innings of the game. With so much traffic on the bases and some timely hits, the Tritons found themselves up by a score of 8-0 over UCI after two innings. With the game already looking lopsided heading into the third, the Tritons offense kept their foot on the gas, putting up a 16-run barrage, tallying 5 hits and 9 walks, with UCI’s defense committing 2 errors. As the offense was firing on all cylinders, the pitching side was also impressive. Starting pitcher Ethan Adamson pitched well in his 3 innings of work, giving up 2 unearned runs on 3 hits and 1 walk, keeping the momentum on the Tritons’ side on both sides of the ball. UCI would only score one more time as reliever Kyle Matsuno worked out of trouble in his inning of work, striking out 1. In the fifth and final inning, due to time constraints, Ethan Ou slammed the door on UCI as he worked a 1-2-3 inning striking out 2, capping off an overwhelming victory with a score of 25-3. In total, the Tritons’ offense collected 11 hits and walked 18 times, led by first baseman Finn Daecher, who went 4 for 4 with 6 runs driven in.
