01/13/24 - 01/14/24 UCSD at Anteater Collegiate Championships
Over the long weekend, UCSD badminton team members competed at the Anteater Collegiate Championships (ACC) held at UC Irvine.
On the first day of the badminton tournament, both singles and mixed events played out. Freshman Jaden Seangmany in MS B secured a victory against grad student Shreyas Kotian with a score of 21-15, 21-11, ultimately winning the event. In MS D, junior Nicholas Jumaoas reached the semifinals but faced defeat against Yang Guo from UCLA with a score of 21-16, 21-15. In XD C, senior pair Benji Ryujin and Kaia To emerged victorious against teammates Hana Ton Nu and Kyrell Ringpis with a score of 21-19, 21-19. However, Benji and Kaia later lost in the semifinals to Kevin Cuan and Iris Lee from UC Davis with a score of 21-11, 21-14.
Moving on to the second day, doubles matches for both men and women took place. In WD D, junior Valerie Nguyen and her UCI friend Jenny Huang faced Miranda Li and Jasmine Nguyen from UCLA in the finals. Valerie and Jasmine secured a close victory in three sets with a score of 21-11, 15-21, 21-17. In MD A, grad students Shreyas Kotian and Eric Duong played the final match of the tournament against Connor Lam and Codey Ma, winning second place.
UCSD badminton showcased impressive performances and exciting matches across various events. We look forward to going back to the tournament again next year!
