UCSD Womxn’s Ultimate – Dragon Coalition – is not only one of the top Womxn’s Frisbee Teams in the country, but it also prides itself on the inclusivity, competitiveness, and fun that our program represents.

With Division I standing in USA Ultimate, we travel around the country each year competing at a wide variety of tournaments including Sean Ryan at UC Santa Cruz, Stanford Invite at Stanford University, and Northwest Challenge in Burlington, WA.

As a nationals-level team, we understand that a sport is not complete without the spirit of its players. We strive to maintain a welcoming and affirming community for all. We also offer two-levels of competitiveness and commitment, as our number one goal is to spread awareness and love for our sport as much as possible.

If this all seems intimidating to you, do not worry! NO EXPERIENCE necessary, and it is common for a majority of Ultimate Frisbee players to begin in college. It is never too late to try something new, and might as well meet new people and have fun while you’re at it! Chances are everyone is still figuring it out with you 🙂

Dragon Coalition History

The UCSD Women’s Ultimate team was founded in 1995 by Beth Lewis (who was then known as Beth Phillips). Upon her arrival at UCSD in the fall of 1995, Beth recruited a few young women to play ultimate and founded Psycaughtit (which was later shortened to Psycho sometime during the 2001 season). After winning a National championship title in 2019, the UCSD Psychos decided to rename themselves as “Dragon Coalition” or “DCO”, in an effort to promote inclusivity and bring the same joy to those who watch Ultimate as as it brings us to play.

2025-2026 | Game Recaps

Gnomeageddon was C-Co’s first tournament under their new name, Coastal Coconut Coalition. It was also Katie “Nami” Helms and Elise “Rio” Delgado’s first tournament with C-Co. The team’s first game was against UCSD’s very own Berserk Coalition. It was a fun and intense game with lots of handler movement and many awesome catches and throws. One of the highlights was a rookie score, with an assist from Jordan “Zilla” Liou to Lujain “Paps” Al-Alli. C-Co’s second game was against USC A. Though this game was challenging, C-Co was able to force numerous turns through a strong zone defense, and got close to the endzone multiple times. C-Co’s third game against UCLA B was extremely windy, and resulted in many long points. Our zone defense pulled through once again, trapping the UCLA handlers on the sideline and forcing many turns.

The second day of the tournament began with a match against Irvine A. This game started off with a bang, with C-Co scoring the first point! C-Co put up a tough fight and had many near-scores. Between games, C-Co took a quick break to go cheer on B-CO. During the next game, which was against Claremont, the wind had started to pick up again, resulting in increasingly long points. This game featured a long-distance huck from Leah “Calyx” Catalano to Rio, resulting in a score. During the third game against UCSB B, the wind somehow became even stronger, to the point that random objects were blown across the fields. C-Co further refined their zone defense skills, particularly how to stop the other team’s handlers from making short passes to each other, as well as how to make progress going upwind. Though the game ended in a loss by 1 point, it was a tough and well-fought battle, with the score being nearly tied most of the game.

Overall, the tournament was an exciting experience. Despite the hot and windy conditions, C-Co kept their spirits up by inventing new cheers, creating TikToks and memes, and bonding with other teams. Isha “Lex” Pandit pioneered a new term, “Big Line Energy”, which quickly became a central theme of the tournament. Every C-Co player worked hard and played their absolute best, resulting in vast improvements across the team. C-Co has grown so much so far, and will undoubtedly continue this trend through the rest of the season!

The Berserk Badgers had a nice (relatively!) late wake up time and got to the fields at 7:45 (ish). With only 14 players, B-Co knew they had to be on their A-game (B-game?) for the second ever annual gnomeaggedon!

A delightful start to the morning, B-Co began their day with a game against our own CoCoCo! As it was the first game of the day, both teams needed to stay focused and really warm up our bodies so (sadly) no shenanigans ensued, and it was instead a nice classic spirited game, ending with a score of 12-1 B-Co!

Moving forward, B-Co was faced with an opponent they lost to for the first and only time at this very tournament last year, UCLA-B! The game was (graciously) much less windy than last year's, and B-Co was really able to build some chemistry with their teammates and focus on their fundamentals. Many hard-fought points later, B-Co pulled through with a solid 13-3 win!

Ending off the day, B-co went on to play the USC (A) Hellions (where are the Cleos??)! The wind was roaring and the energy was depleting, but B-Co stayed strong and cheered each other on all the way. Though the points were hard fought, USC-A pulled through with a clean 12-3 win.

Despite losing an hour (who put daylight savings in the middle of our tournament??), B-Co showed up on day 2 with spirits as high as ever, ready for another windy day of ultimate!

B-co started the day bright and early with a hard fought game against Claremont! B-co came out with a victory on universe point, ending with a winning score of 8-7. B-co loves playing Claremont and always appreciates the close match up, their spirit, and of course line dancing at halftime!

The second game of the day was against UC Irvine, which was a tough match and a windy game. Heavy winds and dust made it super hard to play effectively and even blew endzone cones away! B-co fought hard but ultimately lost 3-9.

The wind continued for the third game against the host team, SDSU. It was a tough game with a lot of calls, but B-co fought hard with a comeback of many points after they were initially winning by quite a bit to 0! SDSU ultimately won 6-7.

Overall, everybody had fun, played good ultimate, and definitely improved as a team, but were challenged by some of the heaviest wind they’ve ever played in!

UCSD Dragon Coalition took on Stanford Invite this weekend. After making the 9-hour drive up the night before, D-Co’s first game was against BYU. After a pretty breezy 12-8 win, UCSD played Wisconsin Bella Donna. Wisconsin came out with fire, but it wasn’t enough to beat UCSD. D-Co had a bye the following round and used it to fuel up for the biggest game in the pool: the University of Washington. The game started out pretty even, but unfortunately, UW was able to eke out the win 11-9. Since D-Co got second in the pool, they had to play the pre-quarters game right after against Northeastern. Having not played any east coast teams yet this season, this was unseen territory for UCSD. They showed off very athletic talents and took the game to double game point (next score wins). To make matters more stressful, UCSD was starting on defense. D-Co was able to get the turn and scored on the following possession, winning the game and going to quarterfinals.

After a long night of rest – minus an hour for daylight savings – D-Co was ready to conquer the day. Quarterfinals were against none other than Cal Poly SLO-motion. In the past two years, UCSD played against SLO in every tournament where both teams were in attendance, including the post-season. UCSD was very well-versed in how SLO played and was able to gain an early lead. D-Co’s strong offensive line never got scored on, and the defensive line kept generating turns. Big defensive stat leaders were freshman Sara Uhland and captain Dylan Mullaney. On the final point of the game, UCSD pulled out an all-rookie point. Angela Zhang got a huge block off a huck, generating a scoring opportunity to win the game. A few moments later, Zhang unleashed a huge huck to Claire Prairie in the endzone who roofed everyone around her, making the final score 11-7.

Now UCSD was into the semi-finals for the first time at a regular season tournament in two or three years. They were matched up against UC Santa Cruz Sol who was ranked number three in the country. They were very talented, athletic, and overall had very good chemistry. UCSD held their own, with a very respectable 12-9 loss. For the last game of the tournament, UCSD was playing against the University of Washington again for third place. UCSD went up by three points from the start, but a few injuries on UW ended their good mojo. Washington was able to score back five in a row and went up at half. UCSD was unable to claw back at the end, losing 11-9 again, making it the third two-point loss against Washington this season. Overall, this was a very good showing by UCSD and they are going to be back better than ever for the post-season.

2/14/26-2/16/26 - Presidents Day Invite

Another tournament brought an exciting and competitive weekend for UCSD Dragon Coalition. Entering the event seeded seventh, Dragon Coalition opened the tournament against the 15th-seeded University of Minnesota, securing a solid 11–8 victory in their first game.

The second game featured a rematch against the nationally ranked #2 University of British Columbia. Earlier at the Santa Barbara Invite, Dragon Coalition had fallen 13–5 to UBC, but the team approached this matchup with renewed determination. UCSD delivered an impressive performance against some of the division’s top athletes, putting up eight points against the reigning national champions and demonstrating significant growth and competitiveness.

The final game of the day was a tense matchup against #10 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The two teams were closely matched throughout, with SLO taking a narrow 10–8 lead. Dragon Coalition responded with a 3–0 run to seize the lead 11–10. With the game to 12 and UCSD starting on defense, senior Annika Ross used her exceptional +6 inch ape index to force a critical defensive turnover. Junior captain Dani Weatherwax then delivered a precise throw to Ananya Shaligram at the front of the endzone, clinching a 12–10 victory and securing second place in the pool. This result advanced Dragon Coalition into either pre-quarterfinals or quarterfinals, depending on the following morning’s crossover matchups.

The next challenge came against the top-seeded and 2025 runners-up, Carleton College Zyzygy. Known as a powerhouse in the ultimate community, Carleton came well-prepared, but Dragon Coalition competed with intensity and skill. UCSD ultimately fell 13–8, but the team had the distinction of putting up the most points against both UBC and Carleton of any other opponents that season, a testament to their competitive performance.

Following the crossover loss, UCSD faced Western Washington Chaos in the pre-quarterfinals. After holding a small lead at halftime, the Tritons were forced into Universe Point. Starting on defense, UCSD needed a turnover to get a chance at victory. Junior Nicole Moran delivered a game-saving defensive play, setting up a 70-yard drive downfield. Ananya Shaligram advanced the disc past midfield before connecting with Junior Mars Bau for a thrilling 13–12 win, showcasing the team’s composure under pressure.

In the quarterfinals, Dragon Coalition faced a formidable Stanford University squad for the first time this season. Stanford, a powerhouse in the Southwest region, established an early lead, and UCSD was unable to recover, ultimately falling 13–5. The team then moved on to the fifth-place semifinals against regional rival UCLA. The game remained tightly contested, leading to another Universe Point scenario. Starting on defense, UCSD forced an incompletion, allowing Junior Captain Margot Nissen to initiate a final drive. She threw a huck to fifth-year graduate student and captain Dylan Mullaney, completing the play and securing a hard-fought victory.

Due to rain forecasts, the final day’s games were relocated to turf fields. In the fifth-place game, Dragon Coalition faced University of Washington, a team that had reached the national semifinals the previous year. The match remained close throughout, with exceptional leadership and motivational huddles led by Junior Claire Prairie. Despite battling challenging conditions, UCSD kept the score tight, ultimately falling 13–11.

Overall, UCSD Dragon Coalition delivered a strong and successful weekend, consistently competing against top-tier programs. Their performance solidified their national ranking, with the team officially seeded seventh in the country—a remarkable achievement and a reflection of their skill, resilience, and teamwork.

2/7/26–2/8/26 – UCSD Berserk Coalition at Presidents Day Qualifiers

The UCSD Berserk Coalition competed at Presidents Day Qualifiers, marking the first tournament of the season for B-Co as a standalone squad.

B-Co opened the tournament against USC A. Although the game ended in a 9–2 result, every point was competitive and provided valuable experience against top-level talent. The next matchup came against UC Irvine A, a familiar and always challenging opponent. Irvine secured an 11–2 win, but the intensity and effort remained high throughout.

B-Co then faced their own C-Co squad in a spirited matchup featuring creative, lighthearted variations—dinosaur points (T-Rex or pterodactyl), hand-holding, upside-down throws, mandatory layouts, and more—alongside competitive stretches of play. The official result stood at 10–2.

In a tightly contested game against Occidental A, B-Co delivered their closest performance of the tournament. The 6–3 finish challenged the team to rely on fundamentals and trust in one another, reinforcing their growth and potential.

Competing in the consolation pool, B-Co matched up against UCLA B, a historically strong developmental program. Strong chemistry and steady execution led to a 12–3 victory. Momentum carried into the next game against UC Davis B, where disciplined defense and patient offense secured an 8–3 win.

The final matchup of the tournament came against USC B. With energy and confidence sustained throughout, B-Co closed the weekend with a decisive 10–1 victory, demonstrating continued development and cohesion.

As the first split tournament of the season, the event provided valuable opportunities to build chemistry and integrate new teammates into the Berserk Coalition system. The team looks forward to continued growth and competition in the months ahead.

C-Co also delivered a strong opening tournament performance, joined by B-Co players Matilda “Sosha” Gaddi, Jenny “Crow” Chen, Yvonne “I-Fell” Hsu, and Fiona “Bart” Zou.

C-Co began against UC Irvine A, showing early intensity and strong plays despite an injury that sidelined Matilda “Sosha” Gaddi. The game concluded 0–13. A subsequent matchup against USC A ended 0–15, with a continued focus on defensive execution and effort.

A spirited game against B-Co followed, featuring a playful first half with creative variations before returning to standard competitive play, ending 2–10.

C-Co continued competition against USC B, emphasizing strong marks to limit backhands and finishing 3–8. In a close contest with UC Davis B, disciplined defense and impressive downfield flow from rookies Aleisha “Mercury” Tripathy, Lujain “Paps” AlAlli, and Fiona “Bart” Zou contributed to a 3–5 result.

After a bye, C-Co concluded the tournament against UCLA B. Persistent effort and continued development defined the 1–10 finish, capping off a competitive and growth-focused tournament for the squad.

1/24/26-1/25/26 - UCSD Dragon Coalition Slays at Santa Barbara Invite

UCSD Dragon Coalition was very excited for its first tournament of the regular season. On the first day, the universe seemed to be on the team’s side, as games did not begin until 12:30 p.m. The first matchup of the day was against the Berkeley Pie Queens. Inevitably, nerves were present and some mistakes were made, but the rookies hit the ground running, showcasing impressive skill and talent in their first collegiate tournament. In the end, the Dragons came away with a solid 11–7 victory.

Next on the docket was UC Davis, with the game featured on Ultiworld. By this point, the Dragons had shaken off their nerves and truly found their rhythm. They secured a 12–8 win, giving them two victories heading into what was arguably their toughest matchup of the tournament: Carleton. Known for consistent excellence and coming off a second-place finish at last year’s National Championships, Carleton posed a major challenge. UCSD came prepared to compete, scoring on the opening point and trading holds for much of the first half. Ultimately, Carleton gained momentum and defeated D-Co 13–6. Carleton would go on to win SBI, making UCSD’s six points against them an impressive showing.

After finishing pool play 2–1, the Dragons safely advanced to prequarters, though they did not expect to face SLO in that round. SLO had been UCSD’s biggest rival the previous season, with many games decided by a single point, so the team was fired up for a night game under the lights. D-Co came out swinging, highlighted by a Callahan from Mars Bau late in the second half.

On the second day of the tournament, UCSD faced the reigning national champions, UBC, in the quarterfinals. Despite strong effort, the Dragons fell behind and ultimately lost 13–5. Given the caliber of the opponent, the team quickly shook off the loss and shifted focus to the remainder of the tournament.

The fifth-place semifinals featured a matchup against the University of Victoria, a familiar opponent that UCSD had beaten multiple times in the past. Still adjusting to new systems and building chemistry with new teammates, the Dragons faced a UVic team that leaned heavily on their strongest handler-to-cutter connection. D-Co fell short in this matchup but remained confident that a future rematch would swing in UCSD’s favor.

The final game of the weekend was against Oregon, a strong team that had struggled throughout the tournament due to injuries. After a fun interaction with the observers, play began. Determined to end the weekend on a high note, the Dragons brought high energy and intensity, earning a victory over Oregon. With that win, UCSD finished seventh overall, held its seed, and secured an important win over an out-of-region opponent.

The first major tournament of the season is always a revealing experience, offering insight into how a team stacks up against top competition and what kind of energy it brings. Not only does Dragon Coalition’s future look bright, but the team atmosphere was filled with love, support, and enthusiasm. D-Co’s passion for frisbee is clear, and the team is excited for the rest of the season ahead.

11/2/25-11/3/25 - K-Fall Tournament at UCSD

Just one week after our very first tournament of the year, K-Fall was upon the DCOs. Our home developmental tournament is a favorite among rookies and returners alike. This K-Fall was particularly special because not only was it the first two-day tournament for the rookies but it was also the return tournament for two of our seniors who missed last year due to ACL injuries: Audrey Schneider and Antonia Thommes were out in full force at K-Fall. These two were showing teams all over the Southwest that they did not miss a beat with their injuries and were going to be a force to be reckoned with this year.

The rookies were focused and ready for this tournament. They brought all their skills and all their spirit as they knew A-team cuts were impending. A team has been pretty popular amongst the young ones this year, and all the returners love to see so many people so enthusiastic about high level ultimate.

In order to give all the rookies equal opportunities to prove their worthiness and to give all the returners the opportunity to have fun and play frisbee, UCSD ran even lines during the tournament.

The UCI Grass Ninjas surprised all of us, a team we have easily beaten at sectionals would go on to win KFall. The DCOs battled hard, but fell to the team from Irvine. We would go on to face Irvine twice that weekend, one in pool play and once in the semifinals and both times, DCO sadly lost. DCO also experienced one of hopefully the only losses of the season to the fiery Caliente squad from ASU. Dragon Coalition brushed off these losses at the end of the day to then beat our long time rivals, the Burning Skirts of UC Santa Barbara.

The weekend was full of glorious wins and close losses. Our captains lead the charge for DCO success this weekend, showcasing not only their incredible physical skills but also their strong leadership, and caring social skills.

We couldn’t make the whole weekend about frisbee, as we had to celebrate Halloween. Each player was given a teammate they had to design as a Jack-O-Lantern. From digital rendering to cardboard cutouts, the arts and craft project definitely brought the team together.

In true one-day fashion, UCLA one day was a whirlwind of a time. The Triton players woke up and left San Diego while it was still dark out to reach LA while the sun was rising. The Tritons arrived ready to learn, have fun, and ball out. All the members of the women’s ultimate team were split randomly into two teams, including rookies and returners alike. Instead of making them team X and Y like other schools, they were team Vector and Gru to celebrate Captain Dylan Mullaney’s favorite movie, Despicable Me.

It was a day full of developmental frisbee. For many rookies, this was the first experience playing against another team, and they came ready to rumble. Rookies were running across the field getting back on defense and catching huck after huck. Returners were ready to show their skills, as they not only played incredibly well but also coached the rookies on and off the field. UCLA one day is a special time where A and B team gets to play together and there are no coaches, only players. The day was jam-packed, playing 5 games back to back, but there was never a lull in spirit. The two teams had different levels of scoring success, Team Gru won all by one game, whereas Team Vector lost all their games. Regardless of whether they won or lost, each team was in high spirits the whole day. The rookies not only learned how to better play the game of ultimate, but also learned the DCO cheers and made lifelong friendships. Team Gru and Team Vector celebrated their wins and brushed off their losses. Every rookie walked away from the intramural fields at UCLA with a newfound love for frisbee. On the car ride home, all the rookies could discuss was the new skills they learned and how much fun ultimate frisbee is.

Hello Dragon Coalition Fans!

This past weekend, D-Co wrapped up an incredible season at Nationals in Burlington, WA, finishing tied for 9th in the country! After months of hard work, growth, and grit, we took the field against the best teams in the nation and showed everyone what Dragon Coalition ultimate is all about.

Day 1 started with a bang as we faced off against our longtime rivals Cal Poly SLO Motion. We came out energized and focused, executing clean offense and stifling defense to earn a decisive 15-9 victory. That momentum carried into our next game against the reigning national champions, UNC Pleiades. In one of the most thrilling games of our season, D-Co battled point for point, culminating in a universe point finish—and we came out on top, 13-12! It was an unforgettable win and a testament to our resilience and teamwork.

Day 2 brought more fierce competition as we took on the top-seeded UBC Thunderbirds. We played with heart and determination, keeping pace with one of the most talented squads in the country, but UBC ultimately secured the win 15-11. Still, we weren’t done. In our final pool play game, we faced UPenn Venus and bounced back strong, taking control early and sealing a 15-9 victory to claim second place in our pool. Our final game of the tournament came in prequarters against Stanford Superfly. It was an intense and emotional game, with both teams laying it all on the line. We fought hard through every point, but Stanford edged us out 15-13, ending our Nationals run.

While our journey ended earlier than we hoped, we’re so proud of what we accomplished. From fierce rivalries to universe point thrillers, every moment at Nationals was a reflection of our dedication and love for the game. Thank you to all our fans, friends, and families for your incredible support all season long. D-Co finishes the year tied for 9th in the nation—and we can’t wait to come back even stronger. Go D-Co!

4/26/25 - Dragon Coalition Takes on Regionals 2025

Hello Dragon Coalition Fans!

This past weekend, D-Co brought the fire to Regionals and walked away with a proud 4th place finish—and more importantly, a ticket to Nationals in Seattle next month! With fierce competition, emotional games, and huge plays across the board, D-Co proved we belong among the nation’s best.

Saturday opened with a statement win against GCU, where we came out hot and never let up, finishing with a dominant 15-1 scoreline. Our second game was a nail-biter against longtime rival SLO Motion. We traded points the whole way in one of the most intense games of the season, but SLO just barely edged us out 12-13. We followed that up with another tightly contested game against UCSB. Despite our fight and composure, they held us off for a 13-15 loss. But D-Co wasn’t done. In our final game of the day, we regrouped and delivered a strong win over UCLA, closing Saturday on a high note with a 15-10 victory.

On Sunday, the energy was electric and the stakes were high. We opened against UCSC in a battle for a spot in the bracket, and came through with a clutch 14-12 win. In the semifinals, we took on Stanford in a tough matchup. Both teams played gritty, focused ultimate, but Stanford took the win 10-12, pushing us into the backdoor bracket for the fourth bid. There, we faced UCSC one more time with everything on the line—and D-Co absolutely delivered. With unstoppable momentum, sharp execution, and incredible team chemistry, we secured a 15-7 victory and punched our ticket to Nationals!

We’re so proud of everything this team has accomplished and grateful for the support from our fans, families, and coaches. Nationals, here we come—let’s go D-Co!

Berserk Coalition

After winning Dev Regionals, B-Co returned to Bakersfield two weeks later for A Team Regionals. It was a fun opportunity to face new teams, celebrate their seniors, and play together in a tournament one last time this season.

B-Co started off the tournament with a game against Cal Poly SLO’s A team. It was a little drizzly, but that didn’t stop B-Co from starting the game strong. On the first point, B-Co received the disc and scored in just three passes. Senior Emma “Scobi” Rourke provided the assist to Isabella “Stratus” Zaragoza, who was cutting into the endzone from the left side of the field. Cal Poly SLO came firing back, scoring a handful of points in a row. B-Co brought the score back to 3-4, with assists from Angela “Ese” Zhang to Leila “Hydra” Jones and from Ashley “Brisk” Duong to Erin “Stiizy” Johnson. However, Cal Poly SLO pulled away with the lead, and the game ended with a score of 3-15.

The second game against Grand Canyon University was close and competitive. Grand Canyon scored the first couple points, but B-Co battled back. One of the highlights of the first half included a long throw from Haley “Xylo” Stringer to Leila “Hydra” Jones for a layout score. Another was two points in which the team patiently and quickly worked it up the field. On one play, Scobi D’d the disc near Grand Canyon’s end zone and threw a lefty backhand to Stratus, who caught it and dished it to Liana “Rango” Kitchel, who threw it to Stiizy for the assist. On another play, the handlers calmly and efficiently moved the disc through the zone for the score. B-Co carried the momentum they started building toward the end of the first half into the second. They were buoyed by standout defensive performances from Kelly “Dasani” Loo and Bella “Chila” Ely, who both had an impressive 3 Ds in a point. They scored three points in a row two separate times in the second half, but they ultimately fell short of a win. The final score was 9-13.

The final game of day 1, and the first game of bracket play (6th place qualifiers), was against Santa Clara University. B-Co was held scoreless in the first half, but they rallied in the second with some outstanding plays. For B-Co’s first point, Hydra caught a long huck from Sophie “Flo-rida” Toussaint and dished it to Chila, who threw it back to Hydra in the end zone. Another point was also a give and go, this time between Skye “Niche” Baeson and Chila. Niche worked the disc up the field, passed it to Chila, then received it back for the score. One of the last points of the game was a rookie line (which included some returners too because there weren’t enough rookies for a full line). Hydra assisted Stiizy for the B-Co point. The game concluded with a score of 4-13.

B-Co kicked off Day 2 well-rested, playing a fiercely competitive and spirited matchup against UC Irvine. Neither team ever led by more than a couple points. Highlights of the first half included Hydra scoring off a deep cut to the end zone and a long huck from Scobi, as well as a layout by Rango. B-Co started the second half scoring two points in a row, and they went on to tie the game twice. Some of these points were scored via a knee-sliding catch by Stratus and an iso play by Chila. One of the top players of the game (and eventual tournament MVP of the team) was Xylo, who had two clutch goal line Ds. The game ended in a score of 8-10.

B-Co bounced back against Cal Poly SLO’s B Team for their final game of the tournament (and season). They maintained a lead throughout. The team played a highly successful zone defense on some points, creating and capitalizing on multiple turnovers. Several players, including Stratus and Olivia “T-Bolt” Dance, scored multiple points. The game ended with Chila throwing a hammer to Ajax, who laid out and scored. B-Co ended the tournament with a 10-6 win.

B-Co is graduating 12 seniors this year: Kelly “Dasani” Loo, Cate “Zyn” Stone, Kimmi “Nobu” Wang, Olivia “T-Bolt” Dance, Xuan “Comet” Ly, Bella “Chila” Ely, Haley “Xylo” Stringer, Emma “Scobi” Rourke, Lacey “Tecate” Potter, Ashley “Brisk” Duong, Riley “Mage” Liu, and Chelsea “Toka” Schaf. They have all played a significant role in leading this team on and off the field these past 3-4 years, as well as maintaining the fun and spirited culture that is frisbee. B-Co will not be the same without them!

Hello Dragon Coalition Fans!

This past weekend, D-Co brought the fire to Sectionals and walked away with a proud 3rd place finish! With intense matchups, a strong team mentality, and plenty of exciting moments, we showed just how much we've grown this season.

Saturday was a big day for D-Co, and we came out swinging. We kicked off the tournament with a commanding 14-5 win over UC Irvine Grass Ninjas, using strong defensive pressure and clean offense to set the tone. That momentum carried into our next game against SDSU Garden Gnomes, where we dominated with a 15-3 victory, showcasing crisp movement and relentless energy. Our final game of the day was a showdown with UCLA Blu, a tough opponent we knew would bring intensity. We met the challenge head-on, staying composed and strategic to earn a solid 12-6 win and finish the day undefeated.

On Sunday, we opened with a high-stakes semifinal match against Cal Poly SLO Motion. It was a thrilling back-and-forth game filled with huge plays and heart from both sides. We kept things tight the whole way, but SLO ultimately edged us out 11-12 in a heartbreaking finish. Refusing to dwell, we turned our focus to a rematch with UCLA Blu. With renewed determination, we tightened up our game and came away with a confident 14-9 victory. Our final test of the weekend came against USC Hellions in the third-place match. Both teams were fighting hard, but D-Co’s resilience and teamwork shone through as we closed out the weekend with a gritty 14-11 win. We’re incredibly proud of our performance and excited to carry this momentum into Regionals. As always, thank you to our amazing fans for your unwavering support—let’s go D-Co!

BERSERK COALITION

UCSD’s Berserk Coalition made the long trek up to Bakersfield to play in the Southwest Developmental Women’s Conferences! They were ready to give it their all, fighting for this to not be their last tournament of the season.

B-Co started the tournament with a game against USC B. This game was immensely spirited, and helped Berserk get into the groove of things. They focused on their movement and FUNdamentals, priming B-Co to get in the right mindset, and ending with a 12-2 win!

The next game of the day was an intense match-up with UCLA B. After many games against each other this season, the teams knew each other well, and were ready to fight for this game. This was a passionate game, with neither team letting up. B-Co was able to pull ahead, earning a 11-6 win.

For the last game of the day, Berserk Coalition was able to play against our C team, which is always a blast! There were also some fun points added in, from dinosaur points(are you a T-Rex or a Pterodactyl??) to the vibe of your name(Bouba or Kiki??). The game ended with a score of 8-2, a great way to wrap up the day.

The next day, B-Co was rested (from both sleep and a hot tub) and ready to play some new faces. It was their first time this season playing against SLO B, and they knew it would be challenging. This game was fast paced, and had great plays from both teams. B-Co was able to take the win, with a score of 9-7.

Berserk then entered Bracket Play, and knew they had to continue their streak in order to take home the tournament. Their next game was a rematch against our beloved C-Co, and B-Co knew they had to keep up their intensity in order to stay in the game. This was a completely different game than the day before, with both teams making amazing connections and plays. There were some especially great deep hucks by Xuan “Comet” Ly. After an intense game, B-Co ended up taking the win, with a score of 14-3.

B-Co then entered the finals, with a rematch against SLO. From throwing some zones, to executing plays, it was obvious that B-Co was willing to do whatever it took to win this tournament. Everyone showed up, from veterans to rookies, and it was everyone’s collective effort that made this game so competitive. This was a tough match, as both teams were equally as passionate, needing this win. One highlight featured Isabella “Stratus” Zaragoza, who hand-blocked and then got the layout score. However, B-Co was able to get the upper hand, where Chelsea “Toka” Schaf snatched the final point, and took the 8-5 win.

B-Co stepped up to the challenge of their first postseason tournament, winning the tournament and going undefeated! They overcame the heat and wind and showed how much they deserve their spot at Regionals. B-Co earned another tournament, and is excited to demonstrate how much they have grown, ready to face this stiff competition soon.

COALITION COALITION

Developmental Regionals was our last tournament of the season and such a fun way to end the season! We started off day one of the tournament with our first game against UCLA B team. During this game, Awrua “LMNO” Anim-Addo and Leah “Calyx” Catalano made their debut as hybrid players, handling alongside Sophia “Mystic” Ramirez, Noi “Rubiks” Kertis-Sella, Sophie “Fargo” Rothman, and Kate “Merlot” Wang! This game was full of intensity, with so much intimiD in each point at the end zone. This game ended with a final score of 2-13.

Our next game was against the Cal Poly SLO B team, and was another game full of awesome defensive plays and some very long points! There were so many defensive stats accumulated by so many players during this game! Erin “Onyx” Soto had terrific positioning during this game and was always ready to catch the disc. The final score for this game was 3-11.

Our third game of the day was against USC B team, and marked another C-team win for this season! This game was also one of many long points, and every person on the field hustled so hard for each and every point! Kate “Merlot” Wang had great positioning during this game and got so many assists, helping us score during this game! After yet another game of hustling, we ended this game with a score of 7-4.

Our final game of the day was against one of our all-time favorite competitors, UCSD B team (WE LOVE U B-CO!!!). This game was so fun, and a great time for all of us to try some new plays and gain some stats! So many rookies got defensive stats during this game, including Anya “Laika” Baphna and Anna “Turbo” Lewis! Sofia “Nokia” Gonzalez scored during our dino arms point, and so many players got the chance to experience trying out new roles like handling instead of cutting! This game was such a spirited way for us to end day one of this tournament, and the final score was 2-8.

After day one, we returned to our hotel and rested up for day two, being sure to enjoy the hotel amenities like the hot tub and pool.

The first game of day two was against our very own UCSD B team, once again. With it being our first game of the day, both teams played with full effort, running only serious points this time around. Despite the Bakersfield heat being a bit more intense than the previous day, C-team scored a mighty 3 points against B team. Noi “Rubiks” Kertis-Sella had multiple defensive stats, many of which were in the opposing team’s endzone. Along with strong defense, C-team demonstrated superb rookie offensive training with up-and-coming rookie, Annette “Pigeon” Liu, who scored for us! The game ended with a score of 3-14.

Our final game of the day (and season) was against UCLA B team. After two long days in hot Bakersfield, both teams wanted to end the tournament with a win. C-team handler movement was on fire, especially between Jigmey “Slayru” Partsang and Kate “Merlot” Wang! Despite the long weekend with very few subs, the C-team pushed hard and saw incredible progress in their teamwork, scoring 6 points against UCLA B, a team they had scored 2 points against the previous day. The game ended with a final score of 6-11.

After completing our second season as a newly formed team, C-teamers circled up to show gratitude for each other. The day was wrapped up with passionate shout-outs along with many tears. The small team formed strong bonds throughout the season, making saying goodbye to our many graduating seniors hard to do. C-team looks forward to another season next year!

This last weekend, D-Co took the field for another exciting tournament, battling some of the best teams in the country. Over two days of intense matchups, we showcased our resilience, growth, and ultimate grit. We kicked off the tournament with a thrilling showdown against Vermont. The game was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams making incredible plays and trading breaks. Despite our hard-fought effort, Vermont edged us out in the final moments, taking the game 12-13. Determined to bounce back, we faced off against USC in our second game of the day. D-Co came out firing, locking in on defense and executing sharp offensive plays. We built a solid lead early and never looked back, closing out the game with a decisive 12-5 victory. For our final game of the day, we found ourselves up against UBC, the number 1 ranked team in the country. They came in strong, capitalizing on their deep shots and tight defense. Though we fought hard, UBC took this one 8-13. Despite the loss, we remained focused and ready to bring our best for Day 2.

The second day started with a gritty battle against the previous year’s champions UNC. Both teams played with incredible intensity, and every point was contested. Our defense was dialed in, generating turns and keeping the game close. However, UNC managed to hold on, securing a narrow 7-9 win. Next up was Victoria, another strong competitor. The game was a test of endurance and discipline as we traded points early on. Victoria was able to pull away in the latter half, ultimately taking the game 7-10.

Refusing to end the tournament on a loss, we channeled all our energy into our final matchup against Stanford. Determined to finish strong, D-Co came out firing on all cylinders, executing clean offensive sets and applying relentless defensive pressure. Our efforts paid off as we secured a well-earned 9-7 victory to close out the weekend on a high note! While the weekend had its ups and downs, every game gave us valuable opportunities to grow and refine our play. We’re excited to build on this experience and come back even stronger in the next tournament. As always, thank you to all our fans for your unwavering support—D-Co is ready for what’s next!

UCSD Berserk Coalition had a great time at SDSU’s 2-day Gnomageddon tournament! It was an away tournament, but the B-Cos didn’t have to travel far.

The first day was a busy one, with four games and a bye. The B-Cos started the day with a tough test against SDSU. It was a close and exciting game, highlighted by a layout score by Angela “Ese” Zhang. There were also two impressive plays in which a player got a D and an assist in the same play. The game ultimately ended in a 7-4 win for SDSU, but it was a good game that helped B-Co improve.

After resting, refueling, and cheering on the C team during their bye, B-Co played their second game against UCSB B. It was a high-scoring game, with eight different B-Cos adding points to the scoreboard. The game resulted in a 10-2 B-Co win, as well as a fun spirit circle with the UCSB Mini Skirts.

The third game by contrast was a low-scoring one with only 5 points played. The battle against the wind and UCLA B was long and arduous. It was a back-and-forth game, both because throwing upwind created lots of turns and because the two teams were an even match. However, the B-Cos were tenacious and played 110% on every point. They ultimately lost on universe 3-2, but would get their revenge on day 2.

The fourth and final game on Saturday was against a team they gnome and love, Claremont! (gnome pun intended.) The team bounced back from their loss in game 3, winning this game 8-3. One highlight was an incredible sequence between Skye “Niche” Baesen, Isabella “Stratus” Zaragoza, and Xuan “Comet” Ly. Niche found Stratus with an inside throw, who laid out to catch it and threw the assist to Comet for the score. Another was dancing to “Footloose” at halftime, a Claremont tradition.

Both games on Sunday featured rematches from Saturday. The first was a semi-final game against SDSU. This game was closer than the last meeting, with a 7-5 score in favor of the Gnomes. The B-Cos came out strong, with Liana “Rango” Kitchel scoring the first point with a lay-in. The teams traded scores for a while, until SDSU pulled a little ahead. Cate “Zyn” Stone’s big cross-field assist to Comet for the layout score brought the score to 5-6, but it would be the final point the team scored that game.

After a tough loss, the B-Cos quickly shifted focus to their third place match against UCLA B. This one was another close, exciting game. Kelly “Dasani” Loo continued her exemplary tournament performance on both defense and offense. She was a defensive throw-stopping machine, had epic pulls, and threw passes that were crisp and consistent. Other notable players included Heidi “Ajax” Galan and Ariana “Esca” Zaragoza. Both brought such spirited intensity to the game (and everyone before it). They always made every effort to catch every disc thrown in their direction, whether it was laying out, knee sliding, running through the disc, or sprinting after a disc until it hit the ground. The B-Cos finished their final game of the day with a 5-3 win and held seed in the tournament.

Gnomageddon was a fun tournament to end the quarter, with multiple layout scores and all-around stellar team defense! The six games helped the team build stamina, chemistry on the field, and practice against different defensive formations. They are so grateful for their friends and family (and guinea pig!) that traveled from near and far to watch them compete. They look forward to playing in a couple more tournaments when they return from spring break!

Berserk-Coalition

UCSD’s Berserk Coalition was awake bright and early to compete in the Claremont Classic, ready to leave it all on the field in this one day tournament! Excited to play against some familiar faces, B-Co was ready to show everyone how much they had improved.

Berserk started off with a game against UCLA’s B team, hoping to set the tone of the day. In this crucial first point of the day, handler Haley “Xylo” Stringer had a beautiful assist to fellow handler Skye “Niche” Baesen showing off the work they had put into perfecting their endzone plays and handler movement. Isabella “Stratus” Zaragoza’s hard defense then paid off, as they managed to get an insane Callahan, energizing the team, and ended the game with a 13-4 win.

Freshly rejuvenated, B-Co then set their sights to the second game of the day, against Claremont’s B team. This game was competitive, and everyone showed up to keep up the spirit. A notable moment was a crazy hand-block by Liana “Rango” Kitchel, demonstrating the intensity that let B-Co win with a 9-5 score.

The team was then ready to face off against their toughest opponent yet, UCI. Berserk focused on their tight defense, and there were noticeable results, shutting down uplines and handler defense. The improvements of how B-Co worked the disc up the field, with killer handler chemistry was also apparent, making this game intense. The match ended up being a 8-4 loss, but was an incredible battle to be proud of.

B-Co was then ready to take on what would be their closest game of the day, against Claremont A. Every single player stepped up, and played with intensity and ambition. Rookie Alison “Sparky” even achieved her goal of getting her first layout, a play that was needed in order to hype the team up to get the game to Universe. This point was tense, with plenty of great D’s and catches from both sides. Then, Angela “Ese” Zhang, trying hard to end the game once and for all, threw a great high release to Heidi “Ajax” Galan, but was just a little too high up. However, Isabella “Stratus” Zaragoza was ready to pick up the trash, and was able to get the win to end off the tourney strong, with a score of 7-6.

Berserk Coalition really showed up to this tournament, and everyone did their part to achieve these results. Especially MVP Bella “Chila” Ely, who topped the charts in both A’s and D’s, a huge part of this success. B-Co did not win because of individuals, as this team showed off how wide of roster they have, with a staggering 18 different scorers, something to be incredibly proud of. B-Co is excited to continue to improve, and demonstrate how every single player on this team is a force to be reckoned with.

Hello Dragon Coalition fans! This past weekend UCSD Womxn’s Ultimate Frisbee headed north for the Stanford Invite, one of our last regular season tournaments. We had our typical round robin pool play on Saturday, starting off with an easy win against UC Berkeley Pi Queens with a final score of 11-6. We then went straight into our next game of the day which was against the Pittsburgh Danger, which was another swift victory for our unstoppable team. Our D-line was on fire and continued to get break after break against Danger, and by half they had only scored 2 points to our 7. One standout player during this game was Dylan “Ravine” Mullaney who played a large role in initiating our D-line offensive flow with her sharp cuts and reliable catches. We continued to dominate throughout the game and ended the game with a final score of 13-6. Our third and final game of the day was against Washington Element, a team we haven’t played in years but is consistently ranked very close to us. However, D-Co was still riding high from the last two games and started the game off with a break against Element’s O-line. We continued to have a solid and close game against Element, getting to 7 points first and taking half. Our O-line was breaking through their zone pretty breezily and the D-line was giving them a run for their money, scoring a few more breaks by the time we got to half. After half, things got a little trickier and Element managed to get a couple breaks on us; we were still up, but the game was getting closer and more intense. However, D-Co didn’t give up the fight and we managed to get the win, ending the game with a final score of 12-9.

Day 2 began bright and early with our quarterfinals game against Cal Poly SLO Motion, one of our frequent match-ups and close opponents. It was a hard fought and close game, and it was clear that neither team was going down without a fight. D-Co got up by a few breaks early in the game and were able to take half thanks to some impressive handler offense from Jessie “Saber” Finkelor and Tori “Blitz” Gray. Unfortunately, Slo Motion brought a previously unforeseen fire to the second half and managed to break us a couple times to close the gap between the scores, and after a literal 20 minute point that Slo managed to get the score on, the game was over and they won with a final score of 9-11. Now in the 5th place bracket, we had to immediately switch gears and prepare to play UC Santa Cruz Sol, a team we lost to two weeks prior at the Prez Day Invite after a close game. A little worn out from our last game, Sol was able to get up by a couple breaks at the beginning of the game and took half before we could catch back up. However, at half time we calmed down and refocused our energy towards playing this game the best we could and returned to the game as a new team. We played hard and fought for every disc, and in an unexpected turn of events, managed to get back up against Sol and beat them on universe point! Our final game of the tournament was for 5th place against one of our opponents from the previous day, Washington Element. This time, our game against Element was much closer than it was on Saturday and it was Element that was able to get the first break of the game. While we held on as tight as we could, they managed to punch in the win to end the game with a final score of 9-11 and we ended the weekend in sixth place overall, winning 4 out of 6 of our games. We can’t wait to further improve and face these teams in future tournaments. See you in three weeks when D-Co heads to Seattle for the Northwest Challenge!

Hello Dragon Coalition Fans! This last President’s Day weekend D-Co hosted one of the most competitive tournaments of the regular season made up of most of the top teams in the nation. On Saturday, we debuted our super cool new jerseys and brought the heat for our first pool play game against UT Dallas Melee. We were amped up and ready to show off all of the new cutting skills and defenses that we’d spent the last month working on, so D-Co came out strong and immediately got up by a couple breaks. Melee continued to fight hard throughout the game, but they were unable to catch up and only managed to get 7 points against our 11. One exciting play from that game that further solidified our win was Kezha “Crush” Neale-Sacks’s super cool Callahan (the fourth D-Co Callahan this season!) that she got after backing the Melee handlers into their own endzone and making a crazy snag. Our next game of the day was against UC Santa Cruz Sol, one of our biggest rivals that we consistently have close, competitive games with. While we played a hard and close game, Sol managed to get the one-up on us this time, finishing with a final score of 9-11. We look forward to seeing them next weekend at Stanford Invite to play another competitive game against them! Our final game of the day was an evening game against UC Davis Rogue, another team we see at most tournaments and often have close games with. This time was no exception and the wind had picked up, adding another variable into the equation. The points were long and hard-fought, but in the end D-Co were able to come out on top ahead by 3 with a final score of 9-6! It was a long day and we were proud of our 2-1 record for pool play.

We got to the fields bright and early on Sunday ready to face both of the teams that hailed all the way from Colorado, UC Boulder Quandary and Colorado State Hells Bells, for our reshuffled pool play. But for our first game, we had our first rematch of the season against Stanford Superfly, who we beat on universe point a few weeks ago at SBI. It was another close and hard-fought game, but D-Co managed to do it again! We had another universe point against Stanford and managed to punch it in when it mattered, ending the game with a satisfying 12-11 score. Next we went up against Hells Bells and though they are an incredibly tall team, D-Co flew higher, and it really wasn’t a very close game. In the end, we scored 12 against their meager 8 and proved that their win against us last year at Nationals was a one-off win that we won’t let happen again. For our third game, we were up against Colorado Quandary, a consistently top team in the country and semi-finalists at nationals last year. Knowing all of this, we were a little nervous going into the game, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the way we played on the field. D-Co was playing at the top of our form and absolutely gave Quandary a run for their money. The game was close the entire time and we went back and forth trading points for essentially the entire game. For the second time of the day, the game came down to the last point and we were tied 10-all. It was a close last point and went back and forth a couple times, but unfortunately Quandary managed to score the final point. Nonetheless, we felt incredibly proud of how we played and can’t wait to have more match-ups with them in the future. Our fourth and final game of the day was the quarterfinals game against Oregon Fugue, another top team nationally and probably one of our hardest opponents. The last time we played Fugue was at nationals last year when they crushed us in pre-quarters 3-15 to knock us out of the tournament. This year, however, we are a different team and played a much closer match against Fugue. Unfortunately, we were on incredibly tired legs that had just played 3 tough games back to back so were unable to come at them with everything we had, but we were still able to play a closer game against them than we were able to at any point last year, ending with a final score of 9-13.

On Monday, we awoke at the crack of dawn to arrive at the fields before our 8:00 AM game against Victoria Vikes in the fifth-place semis. We were fired up from our games the previous day and gave the Vikes a tough game, coming out pretty easily with a 13-8 win. Our scary zone defenses got to them, and Vikes were unable to break through, so we progressed onto the fifth-place finals game. This game was tougher against Utah Spiral Jetty, who are another one of our rivals that we often go back and forth with. We got up a few breaks at the beginning of the game and by half we were feeling pretty good about our chances of winning, but after half Spiral Jetty came back with an unforeseen fire and managed to break us back until it was a tied game and we were entering our third universe point game of the weekend. It was a close last point, but unfortunately, Spiral Jetty managed to score and take fifth place, and we finished the weekend in sixth place overall. Ultimately, it was a good weekend and D-Co played many great games. See you in two weeks at Stanford Invite!

UCSD’s Berserk Coalition kicked off their first tournament of the year with a Bang, with a two-day tournament in Irvine! This tournament was full of amazing layouts, hucks, and smart chilly plays that showed off the building chemistry in this team. B-Co began their weekend with an energized first game against Long Beach. They started strong with an insane cutter-to-handler connection between Eva “Pocky” York and Heidi “Ajax” Galan, leading the team to an early lead. Captain Ajax was not done yet, later on making a beautiful layout followed by a huck assist, a play that will be put into the Berserk history books. The game was full of D’s and crazy catches and ended with a score for an exciting rookie point, assisted by Charlotte “Axis” Durham and caught by Leila “Hydra” Jones, ending the game with a 10-2 win.

B-Co then went up against UCLA’s A team, an intense match-up. However, Berserk never slowed down, and kept fighting the whole game, making them work for those points, but ended up going 0-13. Notable players include Ashley “Brisk” Duong, with a great D, as well as rookie Sunny “Yeti” Wang, who kept up the intensity and never backed down from her calls.

Feeling reinvigorated, B-Co went into their next game against Arizona’s “Scorch”. They started strong with a throw from Xuan “Comet” Ly to Angela “Ese” Zhang. Another notable moment was a throw from rookie “Yeti” to an amazing layout score from returner Bri “Skrill” Conlon. The game then ended with a nerve-wracking Universe point, which was then ended by a gorgeous throw by Haley “Xylo” Stringer to rookie Alison “Sparky” Lin, ending with a score of 8-7.

After their bye (spent cheering on the C team, love you!!), Berserk Coalition was rested and ready to take on their last match of the day, against UCLA’s B team. With the wind picking up, B-Co fought hard, working it upwind and taking advantage of the downwind. With a score of 8-3, they were able to end the day with a win.

Bright and early Sunday morning, B-Co took on Irvine, another intense game. B-Co never gave up, and kept up with the speedy team, especially B-Co’s Liana “Rango” Kitchel, hitting an insane hand block and keeping up a great defense. Berserk worked hard the whole game, ending with a score of 2-11.

B-Co ended off the tournament by running it back with a spirited game against Arizona. Handlers Bella “Chila” Ely and Skye “Niche” Baesen had some amazing hucks and chilly plays, and cutter Kimmi “Nobu” Wang had a killer D. The whole team stepped up and played as hard as they could, ending the tournament on a high note, with a score of 9-4, holding seed in 5th place. Everyone grew so much during this tournament, and the beginnings of something amazing are brewing here for the B-Cos.

Hello, Dragon Coalition fans! This past weekend, UCSD Women’s Ultimate Frisbee headed north for the Santa Barbara Invite, our first tournament of the regular season. We started off our pool play with a tight game against BYU Chi, trading points for a bit before managing to get up by a few. Once we utilized our killer downfield defense to stop their main cutter, Chi had no chance of beating us, and we emerged with a 12-9 win. Next up, we were set to play Carleton Syzygy, the number two seed in the tournament and a team that has crushed us in previous years. However, that was not the case this weekend as we played a very close game against Carleton and gave them a run for their money with a final score of 8-12. Although we still lost, we played very solidly against them and will definitely be able to beat them later in the season. Some of our standout players from that game include Tori “Blitz” Gray, who got a Callahan (scoring a point by catching a D in our endzone), and Mars “Viper” Bau, who scored many of our points with their sharp cuts and insane closing speed. Our final game on Saturday was the pre-quarter game against Stanford Superfly, the number three seed in the tournament and last year's finalists at nationals. We played a very intense game with Superfly, trading points for a while before they were able to get a couple of breaks and get up by a couple of points. The clock was running out, and the chances of clinching a win were feeling very slim. However, D-Co, being a second-half team, had never felt more true than in this game as we ramped it up and played our hearts out on defense while remaining patient and smart on offense. Stanford only needed one more point to win, and if we wanted a chance at being in the quarterfinals, we needed to score three points in a row. Armed with hard-set determination, we did it and beat Stanford on universe point to end the game with a score of 11-10! This win was incredibly satisfying, and we left the fields feeling exhausted yet extremely proud of everyone on our team.

Day 2 of SBI tested us like never before; it was freezing with an insanely heavy downpour, and we even got hailed on for a while. However, sans lightning, frisbee games are pretty much never cancelled, so the first game was still set to be against UBC Thunderbirds for the quarterfinals. This was a pretty unfortunate luck of the draw since UBC was the number one seed of the tournament and is pretty generally known for being one of the best teams in the country (even though they’re technically from Canada). But we didn’t let that phase us and went about our usual warm-up routine, focused and locked in. As soon as the game started, it was clear that both teams were playing their best, and we gave as much as we got, playing very hard defense and making their offense have to work for each point. Our offense was killing it, getting more clean holds than UBC and remaining calm under the pressure. Unfortunately, the rain ramped up, and the game got a bit messier; it was hard to see in the rain, and throwing/catching became a risky activity for both teams. This allowed UBC to get up by two breaks, and although we fought hard til the end, the game was incredibly tight and even, ending with a final score of 9-12. Rookie Sanam “Mobi” Rozycki-Shah displayed crazy defense all game long, at one point getting a full-diving layout D during the peak rain downpour. D-Co felt good about this game, and our score differential against UBC was closer than any other team against them all weekend. Knocked out of the championship bracket, we were now aiming for fifth place, and our last game of the weekend was to be against Cal Poly SloMotion, an opponent with whom we had a very close game earlier in the year and just barely lost. This time, however, we were determined to beat them and secure fifth place in the tournament. D-Co was locked in on this game and left everything out on the field. SLO put up a solid zone that we had to work to break through, but our patience and experience proved superior, and we managed to not let them get ahead. This was a long game with lengthy points, each side going back and forth trying to punch one in. The final point of the game was the universe point, and we were going into it on offense. We didn’t turn it and managed to score the winning point to end with a score of 9-8. What a way to end the weekend! We came into the tournament seeded 7th and emerged in 5th place, breaking seed by two spots. SBI was a great preview to the rest of our season, and we can’t wait to improve further and continue on our road to nationals. Won against Stanford, a team who placed 2nd at nationals last year and came from behind by scoring 3 points back to back to back.

Due to the LA wildfire outbreak, UCSD BC-Co decided to withdraw from Santa Barbara Qualifiers due to safety concerns driving through LA. Instead, a handful of the team decided to volunteer with Duck Duck Roar to help organize donation items to send to various evacuation shelters in LA. There were three groups sent to three different locations: BayHo, Linda Vista, and Kensington. BC-Co and volunteers from the community organized items by food, baby supplies, clothes, toiletries, medical supplies, etc. There was an overwhelming amount of donation items, so much so that some items had to be turned away. At the end of the day, BC-Co learned more about relief efforts and helped provide aid to victims of the wildfire.

Hello, Dragon Coalition fans! This past weekend UCSD Women’s Ultimate Frisbee headed north to Santa Cruz, CA for Sean Ryan, our first away tournament of the 2024-2025 season. We got to the fields bright and early on Saturday to warm up for our first game of the day against Stanford Superfly. Superfly came out fairly strong and managed to score the first three points against us, but after a quick timeout and breathing exercise, D-Co was ready to amp it up. We proceeded to score the next six points in a row and remained ahead for the rest of the game using our decisive offense and lockdown defense, finishing the game with a 13-6 win. Our second game was against one of our fierce competitors from the previous season: UC Santa Cruz Sol. We’ve had many close games with them and this game proved to be no different as we went back and forth trading points. This being a developmental tournament, we had new handlers in the handler space, rookies as our main active cutters, and people playing with others they’ve never played with before, so being able to play close to our usual caliber was an incredibly impressive feat. The last point was a universe point and though D-Co fought hard, Sol managed to clinch the win this time, but we can’t wait to see them in the normal season to beat them and demonstrate our growth. Our third game started right afterward and was against UC Davis Rouge. This game was a test of endurance with a handful of points lasting longer than 10 minutes, and the D-Cos proved their determination by winning every single long point and many other points throughout the game. This game also had one of the two (2!!!) Callahans our team got this weekend as Sam “Fusion” Medina backed the Davis offense into their endzone and caught the D, getting a play most players can only dream of. Not long after, D-Co came out on top, winning 8-6. Our fourth and final game of the day was against Cal Poly Slo Motion, and it was a tough one. Everyone’s legs were feeling the exhaustion of 8 hours at the field and the three hard, close games before this. Both sides displayed good offense, able to break the other team’s zone defenses at least once and we played a close game against Slo Motion. Unfortunately, they broke away at the end to finish with a win of 12-8, so it looks like we’ll just have to wait for the regular season to show them what we’re made of.

The next day D-Co got a slight reprieve with our first game not being until 11 AM, allowing us to get a full 8 hours of sleep and eat an entire (complimentary!) continental breakfast, so we were feeling good and ready to perform our best. We were locked in and focused during warm-ups and started our first game of the day against Santa Clara Rage. Our intensity showed as we crushed them, everyone playing phenomenal defense and running our disciplined, systematic offense like it was nobody’s business. It was in this game that we had our second Callahan of the weekend by none other than D-Co’s beloved captain Parissa “Tunez” Teli. We finished the game with a final score of 13-3, feeling good and ready to face off for our final game of the weekend against UC Berkeley Pi Queens. D-Co showed everyone the power of a full night's rest and came out with another demolishing win, Cal only scoring 3 points to our 9. Our rookies showed so much growth over this weekend and we can’t wait to see where this season takes us as we continue to get better and be the dominating team of the Southwest!

Hello Dragon Coalition fans! This past Saturday, UCSD’s Womxn’s Ultimate team woke up bright and early to embark on the trip to UCLA for our first tournament of the 2024-2025 season. This tournament, we were split into three different, Hunger Games-inspired teams: Team Gale (UCSD X), Team Peeta (UCSD Y), and Team Katniss (UCSD Z). With each team playing 4 games in just that one day, the D-COs were
working hard all day. This tournament gave the rookies a chance to finally show off all of their newly learned ultimate skills to the world, and they did not disappoint.

As the sun rose over the UCLA campus, we started off on our first games, with Team Gale facing UCLA X, Team Peeta facing Irvine, and Team Katniss facing USC. Team Peeta was victorious, and Team Gale and Katniss played incredibly close games but both lost by one point. They were some great, spirited games to start the tournament off strong, with some awesome, foundational, shut down defense. In the second game, Team Peeta and Gale were defeated by UCLA Y and Claremont respectively, and Team Katniss won against Occidental. The rookies were showing up with some excellent cutting and were catching some crazy throws. However, team Katniss lost their next two games against UCLA X and UCLA Y. Team Peeta played their next two games against USC and SDSU, ending the day with no more wins but feeling proud of the amount of games they played and how hard they fought. Team Gale went on to win their next two games against Long Beach and Irvine!

At the end of the beautiful, sunny LA day, every D-Co was sore and satisfied with the long day of playing the best, most fun sport of all time. It was a super great day filled with lots of tough competition and pumped energy. Everyone was able to get a bunch of playing time and experience, and there was a ton of improvement by everyone. However, despite the tough competition, there was also definitely an emphasis on sportsmanship and the spirit of the game by all teams, with many spirit circles and spirit awards. Can’t wait to see what our Dragon Coalition brings to KFall next weekend!

The past weekend was quite exciting for UCSD’s Dragon Coalition Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team. After enduring many long and hard fought battles, treacherous winds, and blistering sun, the DCOs secured a spot at nationals!!! Let’s delve into how they were able to accomplish such a magnificent feat. It all started on Friday with a comfy six hour drive up to San Luis Obispo. The DCOs got started bright and early the next morning with their first game against Grand Canyon University. In no time at all, well except for the 12 minute long point, the dragons crushed GCU with a final score of 12-7. Shoutout to Xuan “Gadro” Feldman for her huge layout catch in the endzone. Things only got crazier from there. The wind started picking up, interesting spirit pamphlets were passed around, and we received a special donut delivery from a mythical creature called a nemecat. Onto the next game against UCLA. This one was definitely a nail biter, but, as always, we pulled through at the last minute and won 8-9. Our victory was made possible by sick plays like the one where Ananya “Pulse” Shaligram snatched up a very blady pass. Finally, the DCOs moved onto the grass fields for their final game of the day against UC Santa Barbara. The dragons fought valiantly until the very end and gave it everything they had, but alas it was not enough. Highlight to Parissa “Tunez” Teli for skying someone who is twice her height. UCSB clinched the win on universe for a final score of 8-9. Emotions were high, and although the dragons were upset at the loss, it kept them motivated to try their hardest the next day.

After a restful evening of ice cream and watching the super bloom game, the DCOs were fired up for their two games the next day. The dragons knew that they had to win both of their games if they wanted to go to nationals and so they gave it their all and left everything on the field. First up, was an amazing game against UC Davis. Our very own Abbi “Pierogi” Shilts made spectators audibly gasp with not one, but two massive superhero layout D’s. Mars “Viper” Bau defied logic by passing to themself for a score in the endzone! Magical plays like these helped the DCOs make a huge comeback from being down two breaks, and win the game on universe with a final score of 7-6. All that was left to do to solidify our spot at nationals was beat UC Santa Cruz and the DCOs absolutely crushed it with a final score of 13-9, no problem! At the end of the day, the DCOs were absolutely exhausted, but also brimming with happiness at their job well done. That pretty much sums it up. Another successful regionals in the books!

Spring quarter means it is time for our run to Nationals, which starts off strong with Sectionals held in Irvine, California. Seeded as second in the tournament and the top of our pool, Saturday games were easy money and DCo cooked all day, despite having many key individuals out due to injuries.

As Irvine is only an hour away from San Diego, our players had an extremely early morning, hitting the road by 6am to arrive at the fields by 7:30am. Our first game of the day was against the University of Southern California. Our second year handlers, Sophia “Aera-Aera” Fitch and Cassiday “Pharaoh” Morgan had some crazy beautiful handler movement as well as some huge defensive plays. This game was an easy victory for DCo, winning 14-5. Next, we headed into our game against Cal State Long Beach, with some crazy skies from Yari “Beanabopcumberplop” Perkins as our deep-deep in our defensive zone and awesome offensive hucks from Nicole “Cairo” Moran. DCo continued to show out, taking a 15-1 victory over Long Beach. Going into our third game of the day, DCo would take on Cal Poly SLO, where Dylan “Ravine” Mullaney and Kezha “Crush” Neale-Sacks would run circles around their defenders and make some epic deep cuts for our handlers. DCo secured their win against SLO, with a final score of 10-7.

With a record of 3-0 and winning our pool, DCo didn’t have to play a 4th game (woohoo!) and instead celebrated by going to (you guessed it) a Thai restaurant for a late lunch. We grubbed down on some delicious food, and then headed back to our hotel to shower and get ready for a delectable dinner at Cassidy “Pharoah” Morgan’s beautiful home, where her lovely parents made a feast of chili and cornbread and salad and brownies for us, and of course we absolutely devoured it. Our coaches, who we love and adore so much, had to bust their butts back down to San Diego for their own professional Ultimate Frisbee game Saturday night, so during dinner we had a watch party and cheered on our coaches. After we had filled our tummies to our heart’s content and watched our amazing coaches win their own game, we all headed back to the hotel for the night.

Sunday morning was a big deal for DCo, because we were playing UCLA in the semi-finals. UCLA beat us last year at Regionals, and you best believe that DCo is out for blood when we play them. With some amazing cutter and handler defense on their best player from our own Dani “TONYT” Weatherwax, she absolutely shut down a lot of their passes and flow of the game, coupled with Margot “Sigma” Nissen’s unbelievable ability to grab any disc in the air, DCo took an easy victory over UCLA, finishing with a final score of 10-7. This put DCo into the Final, where we would play UCSB. You can tell that we have been working hard to perfect our zone-O, and thanks to Jessie “Saber” Finkelor’s chili handler movement and crazy cuts from Mars “Viper” Bau, DCo held possession of the frisbee extremely well and moved the disc well all the way to the endzone. We took UCSB to uni, where we were not able to score. While we lost 8-7, it was a very close game and DCo should be so proud of how well they did with so many players out. We placed 2nd in the tournament, which means we held our seed! And what a nice drive home, only an hour! All the DCos made it home safe and sound, and will be getting ready to compete at Regionals in 2 weeks. See you soon!

UC San Diego Berserk Coalition went up to SLO last weekend to defend their title as the best B-team in the nation!

Dev Regionals was challenging due to the games and weather. The first day of the tournament was canceled due to the crazy rain and wind, but BCo was able to use this extra time to rest up and get hyped for the second day. If they didn’t want their season to end, they needed to earn a bid to Southwest Regionals. So even when the weather made things a bit more difficult, BCo were going to play hard to be the best.

Their first game of the tourney was against their own team, C-Co. Both teams had a blast and it was an honor to be a part of C-Co's last tourney of the season. The game ended with a B-Co win. Their next game was against Cal Poly SLO B. SLO B was a great team with some great cutters that were hard to track. They had nice continuation throws and it was hard to stop them once they got a break. Fortunately, B-Co also played well and were able to get in some great deep looks past the SLO defense. The handlers also did a great job moving the disc between themselves to gain yards under high pressure defense. It was an intense semis round, and the final score was 8-3 B-Co. Although they were already guaranteed a bid to Southwest Regionals, B-Co sought to win the whole tournament in the finals against Stanford B. B-Co was faced with an amazing matchup, which kept the game extremely close. Despite the strong wind and the tough zone defense Stanford used, B-Co ended the game on universe point and beat Stanford B 5-4. Great job to B-Co for coming in first place at Begionals and for moving on to Southwest Regionals, where they will play for a chance to go to Nationals!

UCSD’s Berserk Coalition (B-Co) was up early and ready to dominate in Irvine. With three games ahead of them for Day 1, B-Co started warm-ups and got prepared for the day. The first game of the day was against Cal State Long Beach. Starting the day off with high intensity and spirit, B-Co won the game 9-2. The next team B-Co faced was Davis B. B-Co brought the heat and bageled Davis 7-0. Lastly, coming all the way from Oregon, Lewis and Clark played B-Co for the final game of the day. The toughest team of the day, the score remained close throughout the game. However, B-Co pulled through and never gave up, beating Lewis & Clark 5-4. With an undefeated streak for Day 1 of the tournament, B-Co ate and rested to prepare for the next day of frisbee.

B-Co was energized and excited to start their second day of the tournament. Their first game of the day was against their very own teammates, UCSD’s C-Co. Everyone was very hyped for this game and it was an awesome way to start their day. B-Co played happily, which is when they play their best, and scored a lot of points. The rookies did especially well and earned some amazing scores for their team. Rookie cutters Paola “Getty” Gunier and Ariana “Esca'' Zaragoza made some especially great cuts and catches. The final score was 9-1. Moving onto their second game, B-Co was up against Cal B. This was the last game to get into the finals, so B-Co played hard. They were chilly on offense and played hard, close defense to force turns. They capitalized on almost every opportunity which resulted in a final score of 9-2. Even though it was an intense game, both teams made sure to keep spirit up until the end. Their final game was against UCI, and B-Co were determined to win. They played hard but so did UCI, and it was a very close game. The score went back and forth, but B-Co was able to emerge victorious with a final score of 7-6. Notable players from this tournament were Porsche “Rouge” Noble, Bri “Skrill” Conlon, and Cate “Zyn” Stone. They all had amazing plays that left their teammates speechless and kept them in high spirits.

Irvine Open was a great tournament in which B-Co grew a lot and had insurmountable fun. It was a great weekend which showed why they are the best B-team in the nation.

Irvine Open 2024 was C-Co’s greatest tournament yet! The team played for two days filled with spirit and energy, and didn’t let losing an hour of sleep from daylight savings get in their way of putting their all on the field and sideline. UCSD’s C-team more than tripled their record from their previous tournament, with a total of 7 points! Not to mention, they trademarked some fashionable googly eyes, reminding other teams that Co-Co was there for fun and good vibes. And of course, Coalition Coalition concluded each game with their iconic spirit circles, highlighting the players' successes and bonding with their opponents. On top of spirit gifts, C-Co brought a spirit game to the tournament, where they challenged players from the other teams to a handless Fruit by the Foot race. Matilda "Sosha" Gaddi had a hidden talent for this challenge, winning most of her Fruit by the Foot races. Additionally, when a fellow teammate's fruit by the foot fell onto the field, she picked it up and finished the grassy fruit snack; she made the team so proud!

C-team’s first game of the tournament was against Cal Berkeley’s B team. The highlight of this game was the assist from Sophia "Java" Zhu to Awura "LMNO" Anim-Addo who scored the point of the game! No bagel; and B-co during their half-time was able to watch! Irvine Open was off to a great start thanks to this rookie assist and score.

The second game of the day was against the hosts of the tournament, UC Irvine. This team was of A team caliber, and Co-Co did not let that intimidate them! They played tight defense and put up a fight for every point.

The next game was C-Co’s closest game yet! Right off the bat in this game against the UCLA B team, Nicole "Kachow" Brandt scored a point! This was a very well matched game, and the sidelines were buzzing with excitement. The highlight of this game, and maybe even the entire tournament was a nearly 30 minute point with 2 timeouts. Co-Co players were visibly exhausted as they played in the longest point of the season, but they persevered and ended up winning the point! Once Julianna "Nymph" Lawscha caught the disc in the end zone, Coalition Coalition ran onto the field with so much pride, grateful that the point was worth the wait. What an amazing way to close off the first day of the tournament!

The following day started off by playing C-co’s sister team, B-co! Both teams had a lot of fun with this game, flipping their handler-cutter positions, and even trying a hammer point! This game was full of a lot of laughter and players from both teams enjoyed hanging out on the field and on the sidelines. It is also important to note that Nymph scored her second point of the tournament in this game!

Co-Co’s last game was against UC Davis, and really showcased their improvement throughout the tournament. They scored a record-breaking 3 points in this game! 2 of them were made by Annika "Gnocchi" Torres, and Koes "Rox" Koes scored in between. In the spirit circle, the UC Davis team noted that C-Co was the most spirited team at the tournament, proving that C-Co was there to create a fun environment for both our team and opposing teams.

Overall, Coalition Coalition proved that they are a force to be reckoned with at Irvine Open! Their defense was top notch: Nymph with 6 D’s, Noi "Rubiks" Kertis-Sella with 4, Chuning "Finch" Yang and Lacey "Tecate" Potter with 3, and Gnocchi, Abby "Orzo" Messer, and Sosha with 2. It’s also important to note the players who assisted the 7 goals: Sosha with 4, and Tecate, Orzo, and Java with 1 each. Co-Co put in so much effort into every point and it was great to watch it pay off!

Hello Dragon Coalition Fans! We’re back with another tournament recap for your favorite UCSD Womxn’s Ultimate Team! This past weekend, the DCOs made the long journey up to Stevinson for the last tournament of the regular season, Stanford Invite. It was a long weekend with 7 games played over the course of those two days. After a luxurious breakfast at the Quality Inn (not a motel 6!), we headed over to the fields for our first game against UCLA. This game was full of amazing defense, especially by rookie Ananya “Pulse” Shaligram who had some awesome run-through Ds and by Josie “Bumpa” O’Toole who did a great job during zone defense. We started the day off strong, winning the game 12 to 4. We went into the next game with high spirits to face off against the University of Texas. Abbi “Pierogi” Shilts had an incredible game with a foot block and amazing hucks. During this game, the DCOs demonstrated our strong defense and strategic offense while playing in very strong wind, and we won the game 10 to 2. For our next game, we matched up against University of British Columbia, who always provide a challenge. Although we lost the game 11 to 6, we came out with some great experience playing against a strong competitor. This game also had some epic highlights such as a lay-out score by Emma “Arista” Smith. We ended the day with a final victory against UC Berkeley. Throughout this game, we had a bunch of team Ds as our zone defenses proved successful. Our offense had time to shine as well, especially Cassidy “Pharoah” Morgan who was able to come down with a bunch of discs in the end zone despite the strong winds. After a successful day (although very cold), the DCOs piled into a restaurant for some delicious Thai food and then headed back to get some rest before another day of games on Sunday!

On Sunday, we once again began bright and early, facing off against University of Vermont for our first game of the day. This game was filled with awesome offense and two awesome layout scores by both Audrey “BATS” Schneider and Emma “Capwn” Ellefson-Frank. It was a super competitive game but we unfortunately lost the game 7 to 10. But we kept our heads up for our next game against UCSC. This was a very close game full of great defense especially by Abbi “Pierogi” Shilts. Despite putting up a good fight, we lost the game on universe point 9 to 8. We finished the tournament with a final game against the University of Pittsburgh. With amazing offense, we grabbed the victory on universe point, winning the match 10 to 9!

All in all, it was a very successful weekend, despite the arctic temperatures and temperamental weather (especially for a team used to the mild San Diego weather). We finished in 7th place overall and it was a great tournament, filled with a lot of growth, learning, and cloud watching. Can’t wait to see what the DCOs bring to the rest of the season! DCO, you know!

Bonjour Dragon Coalition fans! This past long weekend was of course President’s Day weekend and your favorite UCSD Womxn’s Ultimate was once again hosting their Pres Day Tournament. It was a long, long-weekend with nine games played over the course of those three days. But it was a great time filled with lots of glitter, temporary dragon tattoos, newly tie-dyed sweatsuits, and high spirits all around! So, bright and early Saturday morning, the DCOs trekked over to our very own RIMAC fields to head into a beautiful (although a bit rainy) day of games. For our first game of the tournament, we faced off against the University of Oregon. It was a competitive, high-level game with awesome scores by Ananya “Pulse” Shaligram and Kaitlyn “Chego” Straight. We put up a good fight, but unfortunately lost the game 9 to 14. But we kept our heads up into our next game against University of Denver, which we then won 15 to 2!! This game was filled with incredible offense and lots of success with our zone defense! So, with high spirits, the DCOs headed into their final game of the day against UC Davis. This game featured some amazing handler movement in zone offense, with an incredible cross-field throw by Abbi “Pierogi” Shilts. With this awesome offense and some epic team defense we grabbed the victory 12 to 9. After a successful day, the DCOs headed home to rest up (in our own beds!) for a long day of games on Sunday!

The second day of the tournament started off strong with the second-years premiering their freshly tie-dyed sweatsuits, as is tradition. Gorgeous! Looking very stylish, we headed into our first game against Western Washington. This was a super competitive game, full of amazing zone defense and we grabbed the win on universe point, winning the game 13 to 12!! Next, we faced off against Stanford where we unfortunately lost 6 to 12. But we kept spirits high into our next game against UC Santa Barbara. This was a super tight game and featured some amazing zone offense by our O line handlers, Emma “Capwn” Ellefson-Frank, Jessie “Saber” Finkelor, Abbi “Pierogi” Shilts, and Margot “Sigma” Nissen. It was a head to head battle for the whole match but we snatched the victory 10 to 9, winning on Universe point!! We finished the day with a final win against University of Utah 12 to 4, putting us into the semi-finals!! This game was full of incredible points, with Sophia “Aera” Fitch scoring back to back points! After a long day of games, the team had a potluck with all of the DCO parents who had come to watch us play!

Monday morning, we woke up bright and early, hyped for another day of exciting games! In the semi-finals, we once again faced off against the University of Oregon. They always provide a challenge and we lost the game 4 to 15, but we came out of the game with some great experience playing against a worthy competitor. Our final match of the tournament was once again against UCSB. During this match, we really showed off our zone defense, especially Emma “Gaia” Toussaint. Although we unfortunately lost the game, we finished fourth place in the tournament!! What an exciting tournament and I can’t wait to see what the DCOs bring to their next tournament in Stanford. DCO, you know!!

UCSD’s Berserk Coalition (B-Co) was absolutely hyped to also be playing at home for Pres day weekend! The day started with a foggy, early morning with the B-Cos energized after a good night’s sleep in their own beds. They had an intense day ahead of them, with highly rated teams – B-Co was the underdog. But that was when they performed best. Their first game of the day was against Colorado, who was the top seed. B-Co kept it chilly and their resolve earned them several scores. The final score was 5-14, and despite losing it was still an impressive effort. B-Co’s next game was against UCB, and they carried the intensity they had from their first game. Their offensive chemistry was on point, and their aggressive defense got them much needed breaks. They were able to hold Cal to universe point, but the game ended with a loss and a final score of 9-10. Their last game of the day was against Western Washington, and B-Co played the best they could even though they were tired. The game ended with a final score of 1-15, and B-Co was happy to not get bageled. It was an overall exciting day, and it was only just the start to an exhilarating weekend. Notable players were Bella “Chila” Ely, who threw dime after dime, Emma “Scobi” Rourke who made great catches despite the pressure, and Amita “Pesto” Stowitts who did great all around.

After seeing an amazing shoutout from Ultiworld about the intense competition that UCSD’s Berserk Coalition (that’s right, the B team) gave their opponents on the first day of the tournament, B-Co was ready to fight for a win in Day 2 at Warren Field. Starting off with an intense game against Southern California (USC), B-Co fought hard and kept close scores throughout the game. Although B-Co ultimately lost 8-11, USC definitely had to buckle down in order to beat B-Co’s intensity. The next game was against Davis, the toughest opponent of the day. Working hard against a surprising zone defense and a fast offense, B-Co adapted and continued to stay in competition with Davis. Unfortunately, B-Co lost this game 6-11. Ending the day playing UCSD’s rivals, UCLA, B-Co kept the intensity and energy high. B-Co worked hard throughout the aggressive game, but ultimately lost 5-9. Despite a rough second day, it’s important to remember that scores did not reflect the amazing play and intensity shown by B-Co (the BEST B team EVER).

For the final day of the tourney, B-Co had 2 last games to cap off a great experience. Claremont had gone home early since they had school on Pres day (*Boo*), so B-Co knew they would be playing USC and Denver no matter what. Their first game was against USC, and B-Co was ready for a shot at redemption after losing to them the day before. B-Co put up a tough fight, but they unfortunately lost 8-10. For their last game of the tourney, B-Co was hungry for a win against Denver. They tried to keep their throws chilly and make smart decisions in the face of the wind, and it paid off. They ended the tourney with a 9-6 win. Ashley “Brisk” Duong threw some crazy hucks, and rookies Sophie “Flo-Rida” Toussaint and Angela “Ese” Zhang had some great throws and killer defense.

Overall, it was a fun tourney that showed B-Co that they could do anything!

Braving the rain and strong winds, UC San Diego Berserk Coalition (B-Co) drove a treacherous 7 hours to Stevinson for the Stanford Open. It was the second tournament of the winter quarter, and the first among three weekends in a row. So, it was important for B-Co to set the tone for their upcoming season. Their first game was against one of their main rivals, UCLA B. Despite the cold weather, B-Co brought the heat and played a great game. They played tight defense and were quick on offense to earn B-Co scores before their opponents could even set a hard mark. Key players in this game were Cate “Zyn” Stone who was greatly intimidating on D and Amita “Pesto” Stowitts who was involved in a majority of the scores with her killer catches and throws. Also, rookie cutter Angela “Ese” Zhang did an excellent job with her great grabs and determination to run down all discs no matter what. The B-Cos next game was against Cal Poly-SLO B, a school who only recently got a B team, so no one knew what to expect. It ended up being a very fun and spirited game, in which B-Co’s intensity enabled them to come out on top. Olivia “T-Bolt” Dance and the rest of the zone D did a great job this game forcing turns to snatch multiple defense breaks and scores. Handlers Bella “Chila” Ely and Kelly “Dasani” Loo kept it chilly on offense and made some great hucks despite the pressure. It was a very spirited game, and entertaining for all involved.

With two wins to start off the day, B-Co was ready to keep the momentum going. Despite being the toughest game of the day, B-Co fought hard against Carleton College and kept a close score throughout the game. Ending one point short when hard cap went off, the final score was 6-7. Although it was a loss, B-Co had so much fun playing Carleton and many deemed it the best game of the day! Even as the weather started to get colder, the B-Co spirit kept them warm and they entered their last game of the day against Claremont. With so much spirit, competition, and footloose dancing, B-Co and Claremont played an exciting and super close game. Hard cap went off, and B-Co took the win 6-5! With a great record of 3-1 for the day, B-Co celebrated later by leaving the stinky smell and eating some hot food.

Unfortunately, the weather in California prevented the tournament from continuing on to Sunday, but B-Co eventually drove back 7+ hours and made it safely home.

Hello Dragon Coalition Fans! We’re back with another tournament recap for UCSD’s Womxn’s Ultimate Team! This past weekend, the DCOs headed over to sunny Santa Barbara for the first regular season tournament of 2024. With 5 games played in those two days, the DCOs worked hard and demonstrated their grit and resilience. We began bright and early on Saturday with an 8 AM game against the University of Utah. This was a game full of strong defense, with epic shut-down handler defense by Sophia “Aera” Fitch and two absolutely stunning layout Ds by Abbi “Pierogi” Shilts, as well as some awesome offense. Fourth year Xuan “Gadro” Feldman had amazing handling and gorgeous hucks and Audrey “BATS” Schneider had an awesome sky. However, we unfortunately lost 9 to 12. But we kept spirits high into our next game against UC Berkeley. This game was super competitive and full of great aggressive defense, with one point where Josie “Bumpa” O’Toole had two amazing Ds in one play! As we went into the second half of the game, adrenaline was high and the intense battle ended on Universe, where unfortunately UC Berkeley scored and took the game. For our final game of the day, we matched up against the University of British Columbia. They always provide a challenge, but we came out of the game with some great experience playing against a worthy competitor. This game, Abbi “Pierogi” Shilts really demonstrated her defensive talents with another layout D and an incredible hand block. We were knocked into the consolation bracket, but the DCOs kept their heads high and got ready for the next day of games.

A little sunburnt and definitely hungry, the DCOs piled into Ravine’s house for a delicious pasta dinner with plenty of great conversation and team bonding. Thanks Mr. and Mrs. Ravine! Bellies and hearts full, we got to bed early and woke up revitalized and ready to go!

On day two, we were able to sleep in until (gasp) 7:30 before our 9:45 game against San Luis Obispo. After some head-to-head play, we unfortunately lost the game 7 to 11, but it was filled with some great frisbee all around. One particularly memorable point was where Xuan “Gadro” Feldman threw a beautiful huck to Abbi “Pierogi” Shilts, which she caught right in front of the endzone before quickly throwing it right back to Gadro for the score! We finished the tournament with a win against Northwestern, 15 to 5, putting us in 14th place. This game was filled with strong defense by everyone. with awesome Ds by Audrey “BATS” Schneider and Parissa “Tunez” Teli. All in all, a great tournament, filled with lots of experience, growth, and learning moments. Can’t wait to see what the DCOs bring to the rest of the season! DCO, you know!!

UCSD’s Womxn’s Ultimate B and C team played their first tournament of the winter season!

After making the drive to sunny Santa Barbara, UCSD’s B team and some players from C team started the tournament playing against Stanford B. Starting the tournament out strong, B team took the win 7-4 after a super fun and spirited game! The next game was against Cali Roll, our rookie Skye "Niche" Baesen's old team and the toughest competition of the day. Despite having our amazing Cali Roll alum on B team (and maybe some of Cali Roll’s secrets), Cali Roll won the game 2-10. In our third game of the day, B-Co remained energetic and ready to play. In a hard fought game against Cal B, UCSD took the game 5-3. Finally, our fourth and last game in a row was an intense game against Santa Clara Rage. With close scores throughout the game, B-Co scored two points before hard cap, resulting in a tie 5-5. Universe point! After a long final point, Rage scored the last point, ending the game 5-6. No doubt that with our full team we can beat them next time!

Even after that first long day of playing, B-Co started strong in the quarter finals on Sunday against Cal Poly B. Having more experience as a team and building off of each other, B-Co beat Cal Poly B 6-1. After the first game, B-Co was really spirited and excited for the next game against UCSC Sol. Unfortunately UCSD was faced with a surprise zone defense, and Sol won the semis 0-12. The last game of the day was a rematch against Santa Clara Rage, presenting another opportunity to beat the team we were so close to on Saturday. However, after a long weekend with a smaller team than usual, B-Co did not have enough fuel to play our game. B-Co lost 3-9. With all the team’s ups and downs, UCSD B-Co took home fourth place! Great job to everyone at the tournament!
