“My motto is to play smarter, not harder and this is exactly what I teach my students” says Tad Yamaguchi, coach of the Beginning and Advanced Beginning Tennis Rec Class.

With over 30 years of coaching experience, Tad brings his own unique touch to every practice. The practices are broken into two parts: a warmup and a collection of different drills that work on everything from footwork to proper racquet swings. Once Tad has explained the maneuvers the rest of the practice is used to perfect the drills and get you ready to play tennis at a more advanced level.

The Tennis Rec Classes have various levels of expertise to offer students, ranging from first picking up a racquet to a nighttime workout for advanced players to keep tennis skills sharp.

Most classes are an hour in length and meet two times a week– providing a very flexible schedule to fit into a busy UCSD life while still staying active. All that students need to bring are their own racquet, comfortable shoes and workout clothes!

As Tad points out, “Having fun is probably one of the more important aspects of these classes”. So grab a friend and a racquet and join us out on the courts!
