The new year brings new resolutions and for many of us those resolutions are to live a healthier more active life. UC San Diego has one of the biggest Recreation departments in the nation offering a diverse range of classes, programs and activities to help your achieve your goals. As a UC San Diego student or Rec card holder you get free access to any of our three facilities and awesome prices on classes, programs and trips. Not to mention the range of activities and convenience is nearly impossible to find anywhere else.Try something new this year; you never know what you might love!

Here is a quick Recreation 101 for those of you who are new to UCSD or unfamiliar with Rec.

wordpressFitLife combines elements of recreation with an emphasis on fitness and well-being. FitLife offers popular fitness classes like Zumba, Cycling and Yoga as well as personal services including personal training, private massage, and nutritional consultations.

informalInformal Recreation is time allotted for participation in an unstructured recreation activity including basketball, badminton, cardio machines, volleyball, racquetball, squash, tennis, table tennis, weight lifting, and swimming.  Grab a buddy or go solo at one of our three convenient facilities around campus. Check recreation.ucsd.edu for hours.

IMThe Intramural Sports program is your home base for recreational team sports activities. Get a team of friends together or join on to an existing team. Sports vary quarter to quarter from soccer to intertube waterpolo and dodge ball, there is something for everyone!

MastersMasters programs offer professional and quality workouts for swimming, running and triathlons. Get in great shape or train for a race/triathlon under our highly experienced coaches and along side other motivated athletes.

Young women kayaking on the Sea of Cortez, MexicoOutback Adventures has everything you need for outdoor exploration and fun. Go on one of the many quarterly planned trips, grab a group of students or colleagues to tough out the Odyssey Ropes course or try out rock climbing at the Outback Climbing Center in Canyonview. Also visit the Outback Surf shop and rental store on campus to get the gear for your own adventure.

Chloe SplitsRec Classes has a wide variety of instructional classes and workshops. Learn a new skill or improve on an existing one. Classes include everything from circus arts, dance, and martial arts to fencing, tennis, and gymnastics.

Recreation Department SportsclubUCSD Sports Clubs provides students with the opportunity to experience the commitment, challenge and enjoyment of competitive sports teams. Sports Clubs teams are student directed and represent a diverse set of interests including soccer, volleyball, waterpolo, dragonboat, dancesport and more!

wakeboardingMission Bay Aquatic Center is one of the world’s largest collegiate instructional waterfront facilities. MBAC was designed for students, faculty and staff of UCSD to enjoy instructional and recreational water sports activities like sailing, rowing, stand up paddling, wake boarding, and windsurfing.
