RECognition: Audrey Hong, Marketing

Recreation's monthly series to highlight and celebrate our staff

By Shawn Cyr
Assistant Marketing Director

Audrey Hong, a fourth-year cognitive science major, is a social media genius. With her eye for trends, she is quickly able to turn what’s popular into Instagram Reels and TikToks that speak to students. Since joining Recreation Marketing's team as a Marketing Assistant in August of 2025, Audrey has become instrumental in connecting with students and promoting REC programming.

"Audrey fundamentally transformed the UCSD Recreation Instagram," Marketing Director Amy Schiller says. "Audrey's keen awareness of social media trends, paired with her confidence and magnetic personality, drives engagement to new heights. Her ideas and pace were instrumental in elevating our reach and connection with the campus community."

A quote from Audrey Hong: I also help grow engagement through Reels, Posts, and Stories. I feel like my role is basically Rec’s Gen Z/brainrot ambassador, helping us speak our students’ language. Here's our Q&A with Audrey:

Q: What is your favorite part about working in REC?
A: Definitely yapping with my coworkers and making Reels together! I love that we can have fun, be creative, and make content that's informative but also entertaining!

Q: What do you do for your job at REC?
A: I make a lot of REC’s short-form social media content — aka the Reels! I take what REC needs to promote or communicate and turn it into fun, engaging content ideas for students. I also help grow engagement through Reels, Posts, and Stories. I feel like my role is basically Rec’s Gen Z/brainrot ambassador, helping us speak our students’ language.

Q: 3. What made you want to come work for REC?
A: I had worked in a previous marketing role, but I was looking for something that gave me more creative freedom. I was also already involved with Recreation through Intramural Sports, so when I saw the opportunity to combine something I enjoyed with marketing and content creation, it immediately piqued my interest!

Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and WHY?
A: Teleportation, easily. I could sleep in longer and just teleport straight to class.

Q: What was your most memorable experience with REC?
A: Making a goofy video with my friends and then accidentally going viral on Instagram and TikTok. Such a memorable month of being internet famous!

Q: What is one self-care/sports/fitness activity you love?
A: I love volleyball! It’s one of my favorite ways to hang out with friends!

Q: When I'm not working, you can find me ...
A: Hanging out with my friends, studying at different cafes around San Diego, or playing beach volleyball in Pacific Beach!
