RECognition: Alexis Menor, Events

Recreation's monthly series to highlight and celebrate our staff

By Shawn Cyr
Assistant Marketing Director

Every pack needs its leader. And for the UC San Diego Events crew, that leader has become Alexis Menor.

“Alexis is one of our senior Leads who is vital to everything we do,” Kevin McGlone, Event Operations Coordinator, says. “She has grown so much in her comfort and leadership abilities since her first year with the Wolfpack is now a vocal leader who participates in every shift and Wolfpack outing with enthusiasm.”

A quote from Kevin McGlone, about Alexis Menor, is shown on a blue background: “Alexis is one of our senior Leads who is vital to everything we do,” Kevin McGlone, Event Operations Coordinator, says. “She has grown so much in her comfort and leadership abilities since her first year with the Wolfpack is now a vocal leader who participates in every shift and Wolfpack outing with enthusiasm.”

Alexis, a fourth-year in Seventh College slated to graduate this spring with a degree in cognitive science with a specialization in neuroscience, joined REC in October of 2023 — after fortuitously “stumbling upon the Events application” on Handshake — and has been a constant presence ever since, eventually elevating to the role of Events Lead.

“We set up and assist with any kind of event that happens in our Recreational facilities, whether that's from setting up hundreds of chairs or welcoming guests as they come in to watch a sports game,” says Alexis, who also interned with the UC San Diego Sports Medicine department with the athletic trainers.

If you’ve ever been scrolling Instagram and liked any photos by @recbehindthescenes, you’ve likely interacted with Alexis without knowing it. Operating as Events’ social media coordinator of sorts, Alexis’ photos give followers a sneak peek of the work (and team-building shenanigans) that happens behind the Events and Operations curtain. Some of the most recent posts include the Events team preparing LionTree Arena for Spirit Night, taking a recent hiking adventure, and dressing up in their festive best — with the caption, “happy holidays from the wolfpack.”

“I post photos so that our viewers can get an inside look at all that we do at Events, albeit more of the fun side rather than businessy,” says Alexis, who didn’t create the account but did assume the mantle from since-graduated teammates. “It's also a fun way to keep in touch with all the alumni from the Events crew.”

Some of Alexis’ other REC highlights include attending a Padres game with the whole Recreation team in 2025 and going rock-climbing to build team chemistry and have a bit of fun at Grotto in Miramar.

“I started rock climbing about a year ago because one of my co-workers, now graduated, invited us to try it out,” she says. “Since then, I rarely ever went, but more recently, after we got a bunch of new hires, we have made it a habit to go a lot in the past few months as a means to hang out and get to know each other better.”

Alexis has played volleyball since middle and high school, so naturally, working the games for the UC San Diego volleyball team is her favorite shift. It’s unsurprising, then, what her go-to Intramural Sport is.

“Of course, my favorite IMs would be volleyball,” she says. “But a close second would be basketball. Also, I'm definitely excited for the upcoming two-person scramble golf tournament during the Spring Quarter.”

If Alexis needs a partner for the scramble, there’s no doubt someone in the Wolfpack will step up.

Maybe she’ll even post about it on Instagram.
